Ministerial Visit

On Wednesday 18th May Minister for Education Norma Foley paid a visit to Lanesboro Community College. She arrived bearing gifts as the Minister announced, during her visit, of a funding allocation for the school that will see a further seven new classrooms built in the near future. The new classrooms will facilitate music, graphics, multimedia, textiles and a special education room.

The tremendous work been done in the school over the past number of years has seen continual development and sustained growth in the school. The work done by the current and previous Principal’s coupled with the dedicated work of the vibrant and dedicated teaching staff has seen the school continue to grow and go from strength to strength as can be seen by the school results. The school is either leading or vying for the very best school in county Longford on a yearly basis as can be seen from the Irish Times school ranking

This coming year will again see a record number of pupils attending first year.

Longford GAA Draw

Last year the supporters of Longford GAA really rose to the occasion for the inaugural Club Longford’s draw. Thanks to your wonderful support and encouragement Club Longford will again have another draw this summer with the draw taking place on Saturday 30th July. While results are not instant the behind the scenes of funding is assisting in putting in place sound and solid foundations for the development of our underage players to seamlessly develop into senior players and this has been set in motion due to your wonderful support of last years draw.

To reach much higher levels more funding is required ensuring that all teams are fully equipped with the very best enabling them to achieve great things for our county. Again Club Longford is in your hands to help make Longford competitors in the very top level within Leinster and nationally.

The prizes for the draw are: 1st Prize: Volkswagen Golf 2.0l R-Line or €40,000, 2nd: €1,500 Center Parcs Voucher (Sponsored by M&N Nolan Motors), 3rd: 2 VIP Tickets to Garth Brooks in Croke Park + Accommodation, 4th: €1,000 (Sponsored by Nally’s Forecourt Ltd. Ballymahon), 5th: €500 (Sponsored by Lir Analytical), 6th: Overnight Stay for 2 with Dinner at Viewmount House, 7th: €250, 8th: €250, 9th: €250 and 10th: €250

Connacht Final

It was not to be Roscommon’s day in Pearse Stadium, Galway on Sunday last. Huge numbers with great expectations left the area to support the Roscommon team and hopefully cheer them on to victory. Alas, they came up short on a 2-19 to 2-16 scoreline.

Despite the loss Roscommon still remain in the race for the Sam Maguire and will play one of the qualifiers in the next round on the weekend 11th/12th June.

Needless to say the Murtagh brothers represented their community and club with their never say die efforts and gave of their all for the team with Diarmuid once again scoring what is rapidly becoming his signature outstanding goal.

No Connacht this year but there is the bigger prize of Sam still on offer.

Sympathy

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Andrew Corr, a teacher in Lanesboro Primary School whose father Patrick Corr, BurrishIrishtown, Co. Mayo passed away on Sunday 22nd May.
