Sympathy

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to James and Serena Casey and family, Carrowstrawley on the death of James’s aunt Bridie Creaton, Fr. Russell Rd., Limerick. Bridie was a native of Carrowstrawley and she is survived by her family Geraldine, Donal, John and Deirdre, sisters Anna, Maureen and Olive and her extended family.

Good Health

As we are now into the New Year, I would like to wish everyone the best of good health for 2022.

Birth

Many congratulations to Bríd Killian and her husband James Hanley, Knock Manor, on the birth during the Christmas period of a baby boy.

County Champions

Congratulations to the St. Faithleach’s Under 20 panel on their tremendous win in the County final on Tuesday last. The game was close and tense throughout and after 60 minutes both sides were level with the gallant St. Faithleach’s lads emerging winners on a scoreline of St. Faithleach’s 1-15 to Kilmore/Shannon Gaels 0-17. Well done to the panel and management.

Sympathy

We would like to extend our sincerest sympathy to Tommy Kelly, Cloonadra, and his family on the death of his brother Eamon (Ted) Kelly, Dysart, Co. Galway in the care of the Galway Hospice on Tuesday last 28th December.

Virtual Hug to the Fore

Local Curraghroe man and Galway resident Harry O’Donnell had great success when the horse he owns had a great win at Gowran Park recently. The horse runs in the red and white colours of his home club St. Faithleach’s. Harry is brother of Sean, Gerry, Nuala Gunn, Curraghroe and Micheál, Dublin.

It is very difficult to win maidens at any racecourse but more so in a 16-runner maiden hurdle on the likes of a Grade 1 track such as Gowran Park. The horse is trained on the curragh by Conor O’Dwyer. We wish Harry much more success with Virtual Hug and we will be following his racing career with interest.

Sympathy

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Dolores and Pat Hussey, West Bank and Anna and Brian O’Brien, Clonbonny and their extended families on the death of Marcella Clyne, Stonepark, Roscommon, on Friday 17th December.

Tidy Towns calls on your support

Since the demise of the council workers in the town the workers of the Local Tourism Co-Op/Tidy Towns committee have taken on the task of keeping our town in the pristine condition we always find it. Their workers do a wonderful job and as you can see the work continues unabated. Comments winter and summer about our town’s beauty is related by everyone that visits.

The main source of income for the committee is the Tidy Towns lottery brown envelope. Due to the Covid pandemic and less people out and about this lottery is suffering greatly and consequently hindering the future developments that the committee has in the pipeline to further enhance the town.

You are asked when shopping in the local shops, having your hair done in the local hairdressers or having a drink or meal in the local pubs to remember to buy the lottery brown envelope. Pay €2 for 1 or even put in €5 for 3 envelopes.

Let’s support those within our community that are working so hard to maintain and develop our town.

On Tuesday 4th January the jackpot stood at €6,300 and if it was not won it will rise to €6,400 for the 11th January draw. Play and give yourself a great chance to win the jackpot.

Sympathy

We would like to offer our sincere sympathy to Damien Gill, his wife Leisa Murphy, Cloontuskert, on the death of Damien’s father Fred Gill, Drumsna, Co. Leitrim who passed away at Sligo University Hospital on Sunday 26th December.

Christmas Lights Support

If anyone would like to contribute towards the excellent lights, they can do so in Ballyleague to Noel Moran, Gerry Trimble or John Loughlin or through donation boxes located in Inver Filing station, Credit Union and Keane’s Supervalu or in Lanesboro to Mark Casey, Margaret Gillen, Brigid Mullooly or leave your envelope into O’Brien’s for collection.
