Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes
Church Reopens
On Wednesday night last, and well ahead of schedule, St. Mary’s Church, Lanesboro reopened for the vigil mass of All Saints day. There has been much acclaim for Fr. Mickie and the contractors for the standard of work done in the renovation of our church. The church has had some great work done and again it is a credit to Fr. Mickie for undertaking such a huge project. The church has become a very busy place since its reopening with large numbers turning out to drop in a say a prayer while having a look and admiring the work done.
You are asked to not two changes in the weekly schedule for the winter time. Mass on Friday night will now take place at 7pm and there will be no Mass at 10am on Saturday mornings.
Play rescheduled for Sunday night next
The play arranged to take place in St. Mary’s Hall on Saturday night last was deferred to Sunday night next 11th November due to the sad and untimely death of John Fayne.
The play will now take place on Sunday night at 8.30pm with doors opening at 7.45pm. Tickets are on sale from O’Brien’s and are also available at the door on the night. The price of the tickets is €10. The club is hoping for a wonderful turnout for what should again be a great night’s entertainment.
Rathcline AGM
Friday 23rd November is the date set for the Rathcline AGM. As the club is a huge part of the parish it is very important that every household is represented. So much of the clubs activities touches practically every family, it is vitally important that on a night that very important decisions for the coming year are to be made, make your opinion important.
You are invited to give this meeting serious thought and for you every effort to attend. There are times that people don’t attend meeting for fear of getting jobs, let it not be the case for you and your club.
Death
To say that the entire area was shocked and saddened by the news of the sudden death on Wednesday morning last 31st October of John Fayne, Cullentra is an understatement. John was one of the most unassuming men you are ever likely to meet. His genial manner and big heart meant John an extremely popular man. He was involved in everything that was good and great in the parish. He was willing to help (and did) in any way he could with every event in the parish. John was a handyman extraordinary turning his hand to absolutely everything with great success. He was a leading light in the Lough Ree Sub Aqua club where he devoted a lot of his spare time and took part in many search and rescue missions down the years. John worked in Innis Ree Nursing Home and his loss to the nursing home will be immense as he was totally dedicated to his work. The grief at his loss was palpable and never has a man’s loss been so widely mourned in our community. He gave of himself to his community and his work in that respect was tireless.
The attendance at the reposing of his remains on Thursday in his residence and again at the removal of his remains to St. Mary’s Church on Friday was testimony to the esteem in which John was held. On Saturday the likes of the attendance at his Funeral Mass and his remains being laid to rest has been seldom, if ever, been seen in the parish.
To his wife Mary, son Barry, daughters Lisa and Ashling, sisters, Mary, Claire, Evelyn, Kay and Colette, relatives and many many friends we extend our heartfelt sympathy.
To borrow an old Irish saying “Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís”
Ballyleague Tidy Towns
As a practical means of streamlining our activities, in line with best practice and to comply with the recommendations of the Tidy Towns Adjudicators, the Ballyleague Tidy Towns & Village Renewal committee has resolved to compile a strategic plan for the period 2013 to 2015. As well as the practical benefit of having a written plan to guide us in our work the committee also feel that the whole process of designing and agreeing a strategic direction and a working plan for the enhancement of Ballyleague will be a very positive exercise which will enable and empower everyone in the community to have an input into how Ballyleague will develop during the period of the plan. To progress this exercise an open meeting is planned for Monday Night next November 12th at which ideas and concepts will be openly discussed and recorded. Everyone in the community is welcome to attend this meeting which will commence at 8.30pm in Sorohan’s. It is hoped that the completed strategic action plan will be launched in January 2013. In preparation for the open forum meeting next week and to help stimulate new ideas the committee is going to publish a guide to the last provisional list of action points for the enhancement of the village that we had compiled in draft format. It is by no means a complete list and we would like to invite all residents in the area to add to it. If you would like to read through this list please visit our popular Ballyleague Renewal Facebook page at this web address: http://www.facebook.com/ballyleague.renewal and please leave a comment.
