Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes
Death
It was with a great sadness and shock we learned of the death at his residence on Monday 26th March of Kevin O’Dowd, Barnacor. Kevin was a proud native of Newtowncashel. He was a man who for many years was an employee of Longford County Council until his recent retirement. He had been in failing health for only a short time and he fought his battle in his own inimitable way with the great support of his family. Kevin was of farming stock and liked nothing better than maintaining and working the family farm. He had an abiding passion for horse racing especially Point to Points where he had the uncanny knack and gained tremendous satisfaction in spotting the next superstar, be it the horse or the jockey. Kevin’s popularity was clearly evident by the attendance visiting his home where he reposed until the removal of his remains on Tuesday and again at St. Mary’s Church following his removal. The attendance on Wednesday was both large and representative and following his Requiem Mass Kevin was laid to rest in his native Cashel Cemetery. Kevin’s passing will leave a great void in the hearts and minds of his wife Margaret, son Michael, Sorcha and grandson Traolach, daughters Marie and Deirdre, relatives and many friends to whom we extend our sincere and deepest sympathy.

Lost Dog
Sunday 25th March was a bright sunny and beautiful day with temperatures hitting record heights for the month of March. As you know the river Shannon is always a magnet for people when the day is sunny and warm and this day was no different.
A 10 month old brown and white Chihuahua went missing in and around 12.30pm. The dog is chipped and the loss of the dog is causing great distress to its owners and more so to their two children.
If by chance you have any information as to the dog’s whereabouts could you Alan or Joan Farrell know?

Rathcline GAA
The senior team began the league season with a home defeat to Longford Slashers last Saturday on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-05. Thanks must go to those who prepared Clonbonny so well for the game. The next game is at home to Dromard this Saturday at 7pm. There was a commendably high turnout at last week’s game, and the club hopes that as many parishioners as possible can get out and support the lads against Dromard.
