Yes! Its back

Search for a Star is back for its fifth year and it is looked forward to with the excitement of Santa Claus. There will be a record number of acts participating this year such is the interest for more and more of the community to get involved. The acts have all got their musical acts and now practice is in full swing. As a matter of fact some of the acts are almost ready for the stage now so the onus is on the other acts to get their preparation up to date.

Search for a Star will take place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th February. Tickets will be on sale in the next week in O’Brien’s and early booking is definitely advisable as this is show is traditionally a sell-out.

Lough Ree 2000 Bridge Club

On January 24th The EJ Browne Memorial will take place.

The Regional Pairs competition will take place in Mullingar on Sunday 13th February at 1.30pm. Contact club secretary Hannah Clyne to enter. On January 26th the Annie Duignan Trophy will be played for in Slashers.

Shannon Gaels Under 16 and 18

Every player eligible to play under 16band minor for Shannon Gaels this coming year are asked to be in Clonbonny on Sunday morning nest for training at 12.30p. With competition commencing in February this year it is crucial that every available player turns up for training.

The club would like to extend our sincere sympathy to club selector of last year Dominick Mc Grath, his brothers Joe and Martin, sisters Marie, Rita, Cait and Eileen and their families on the death of their sister Anne in Dublin last week.

Indoor Marker

The indoor market continues every Friday from 11am to 2pm in the Co-Op hall.  If you are unable to attend and want to place an order please phone 3327070.

Lanesboro Bridge Club

The results of the competition held on Wednesday 12th January are; 1st Phil Chalmers & Cyril Hussey, 2nd Gemma Douglas & Kathleen Hanley, 3rd Philomena Walsh & Katherine Harrison, 4th Noreen Dunne & Mai Casey.

€3000 to be won on Saturday night

Saturday night is going to be a lucky night for one lucky ticket holder when the Rathcline GAA club draw takes place. The club is working on a new training area which will further enhance the facilities in Clonbonny and your support is extremely vital. The club is the pride of the Rathcline community and it is only through your great support the present facilities are there for all the members. I urge your support for the draw on this Saturday night 22nd January. Tickets can be bought in O’Brien’s or from any club executive. The first prize is €3,000 and there are a further nine prizes to be won. Be supportive of your club.

Shannon Gaels AGM

The Shannon Gaels Minor Club held their AGM on Sunday last in St. Mary’s Parish Hall. The following executive were elected to office for the coming year: Chairman – Jimmy Flood, Vice Chairman – Sean Kenny, Secretary – Seadna Ryan, Assistant Secretary – Ciara Myhill, Treasurer – Brendan Keane, Assistant Treasurer – Tina Dowd, PRO – Joe O’Brien, Co Board delegates – Micheál O’Sullivan and two others to be appointed, Child Protection Officer – Seadna Ryan.

Wedding

The marriage took place at St. Mary & John’s Church, Ballincollig, Co. Cork of Barry Mc Dermott son of Dessie and Breeda Mc Dermott, Barnacor and Aisling Deasy daughter of Olive and the late Patrick Deasy, Ballincollig, Co. Cork. Bestman was Noel Ferguson friend of the groom and chief bridesmaid was Edel Mc Dermott, sister of the groom. Pageboys were Cian and Brian Mc Grath, nephew of the bride. The marriage ceremony was celebrated by Fr. George O’Mahony, Ballincollig. The wedding reception was held in the Castlemartyr Resort Hotel. We wish the happy couple many years of wedded happiness.

Shape Up with Bonnie

You can ‘shape up’ with Bonnie’s Pilates class in St. Mary’s Parish Hall commencing on this Thursday 17th January at 7pm. Pilates is suitable for all ages and abilities. Everyone is welcome to go along and join in. All you are required to bring along is a mat. The course will run over 10 weeks. If you require any further information contact Bonnie phone 087-2238237.

Card Game

The weekly card game will continue every Sunday night in the Peer Inn at 9pm sharp. Less expenses, all other monies will be distributed in prize money. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.

This week’s there was a three way tie for first place between Sonny Shea & Tom Scally, Mickie Connaughton & Tom Mulvihill and Mike Brennan & Padraig Hand. The table prize winners were PJ Glennon and Michael Kelly.

Lanesboro Community Games

The Community Games committee will hold a Draughts and Chess evening on Monday 24th January 7-8PM, St Mary’s Hall.  There are a number of age groups, with five players and two subs required per team.  If you already know how to play or have an interest in learning to play and would like to be part of Lanesboro’s team, please come along.  If anyone would be able to assist in teaching/training please come along or contact one of the committee, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Glee Club

Due to popular demand, the second term of Glee Club starts on 22nd January from 9-10.30 in Dean Egan Library, Ballymahon.  All newcomers from age of 4-12 are welcome.  Call Lisa on 0877619605 for info and bookings.

 

Culinary Demonstration

Fermoyle N.S. Parents Association presents an evening of Culinary Demonstration by celebrity chef Frank Moynihan in the Peer Inn on Thursday 4th February at 8pm. Tickets are priced at €10 and your support will be greatly appreciated.

25 Card Game

The Sunday night 25 card game takes place in the Co-Op hall, and will continue every Sunday night. The jackpot is on-going and the proceeds go towards the up-keep of the Co-Op. The Co-Op is a non-profit making organisation which supports the community; Your support is greatly appreciated.

The winners last Sunday night had a five way tie for first place; Gemma & Mike, Barney & Eugene, Freda & Martin, Michael & Sean and Pat & Val. The 20th game went to Mary & Ronan and the 15th game to Mark & Noreen. The raffle winners were Martin, Noreen, Barney and Val. The jackpot next week stands at €320 on 14 games.

St. Faithleach’s GAA

Club Membership: Membership now due, payable to Registrar, Padraig Murray.

Learn Online for FREE with FAS at Lanesboro Library!

An ‘Online Learning’ Initiative is running in your local library over the next few months.  The courses are all online and open to everybody over 18.  All courses have been developed for people with little or no IT Skills as well as those with some IT knowledge.  Some of the courses running include: Introduction to Computers, Internet and Email, ECDL, Basic Finance, Health and Safety.

Registration forms are available at the Library.  A FAS course facilitator will be present every Wednesday from 2pm 3.30pm for any queries you may have.

Sympathy

We would like to extend our sincere sympathy to Johnny Smyth and the Feeney family on the death of Frank Goggins (late of Weekfield) in England last week.
