Lanesboro – Ballyleague Notes
Triathlon
Going to press I do not have the full results of the first triathlon held in conjunction with the summer school. A full report will be published in next week’s paper.
Championship Time
Next weekend will be a busy time for championships on both sides of the bridge. Roscommon with local lads Stephen Ormsby, Martin Reynolds and Darragh Hussey will be part of the Roscommon panel ready and willing to face Sligo in the Connaught Final in Castlebar. We wish the lads and their team every success.
Rathcline make their championship debut in Allen Park, Newtownforbes on Sunday next at 2.45pm. The lads have prepared hard for this big day and go to meet Dromard with great confidence. I hope a large number from the parish will attend to support the lads. I wish them every success.
Tickets for Connaught Final
Tickets for the Connaught Final between Roscommon and Sligo are on sale in O’Brien’s.
Sympathy
We would like to extend our sincere sympathy to Martina and Donal Chapman, Lisnacusha, on the death of Martina’s father Jimmy Edgeworth, Killashee. Jimmy was a true Gael and gentleman and will be sadly missed.
Cemetery Sunday Clonbonny graveyard
Sunday next sees the final remembrances at our local cemeteries. Sunday next will see Mass take place in Clonbonny cemetery at 6pm and all families with graves in Clonbonny are asked to make a special effort to clean up their graves.
Leinster Winner
Many congratulations to Shane Donohoe and his team mates who produced a wonderful performance to beat long odds on favourites Offaly in the Leinster Minor Final on Sunday last in Croke Park. They now take on either Mayo or Galway in the All Ireland quarter final on August Bank Holiday weekend.
Ballyleague Village Renewal
The Ballyleague Village Renewal and Tidy Towns group recently purchased a new ride-on lawn mower to help cut the grass in the village and along the approach roads. To help pay for the new machine the group will hold a special church gate collection at the Church of the Holy Rosary in Ballyleague next weekend Saturday July 17th and Sunday July 18th. Please support this worthy cause as the group is made up of volunteers who are continuing to cut grass and carry out painting in the village on a weekly basis to make the area look neat and tidy in advance of this year’s Tidy Towns competition judging. If you would like to make a private donation towards the cost of the new mower please contact Denis Dunne at 0433321150.

VHI Cúl Camps
VHI Cúl camp is again back in Clonbonny this year and it again promises to be another wonderful experience for all the young boys and girls in the area.
Places are booking up fast especially the Nursery camp places and we are limiting places in the Nurseries to 40 places per venue so to avoid disappointment it is advised to book as soon as you can as there might not be any places available on the day. This program will run along similar lines to previous years and Longford will be holding both hurling and football camps throughout the county for the summer months. This year they will be promoting handball more actively within 5 of the camps where we have the facilities to accommodate us. Longford Coaching & Games will also be running a nursery camp for 4 – 6 year olds at each VHI GAA Cul Camp and these camps can be booked by completing and returning the Yellow application form. The date for the Clonbonny GAA Cul Camp is from 26th July to 30th inclusive and it is for all between the ages of 6 and 13yrs from 10-2.30 and the cost is €60 per child. If you require application forms please call to O’Brien’s.
