Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes
Gold and Silver Medals
The Special Olympic Ireland games took place in Dublin last weekend in front of huge attendances. Competition was very intense and competitive. Leading the way for our local communities was Padraig Dunne, Curraghroe. Padraig, a son of Mary and the late Pat Joe Dunne, is a very competitive young man and he showed his true form when won a Gold medal in the 50m sprint and a Silver medal in the Javelin in the track and fields events. We congratulate Padraig on his wonderful success. Padraig pictured in the center.
Looking forward to a Night at the Dogs

Tickets are on sale costing €10 each and you are encouraged to buy yours and come along to enjoy a night out at the dogs. Tickets are on sale from Catherine Kelly, Joe O’Brien, Mike Greene, James O’Flaherty, Caroline Gray, Tracy Gray, Teresa Ormsby, in local shops and bars.
Very Sadly
For someone in my earlier days played tennis with Brendan O’Boyle, an excellent tennis player, on the court at the back of Ballyleague school it was great to see a club formed a few years ago and it was great to see children and adults enjoying the game of tennis on the banks of the Shannon. Alas, it will no longer be the case as I just receive the sad news that the Lough Ree Bay Tennis Club has ceased. A new committee could not be formed, and it was the decision of the club members to disband the club.
The club had €1564.85in its account and they agreed to disperse it to the six local Primary Schools Parents Association with Fermoyle, Lanesboro, Cloontuskert, Ballyleague, Ballagh and Cloontagh each receiving €200 each. The balance of 331.04 was split between Lanesboro and Ballyleague Tidy Towns committee’s each received €165.52.
As I already said it is sad to see a club that offered another sporting aspect to our community no longer in place.
Winner get €300
Buster tickets for the Buster Race at the Night at the Dogs are on sale at €2 each and you have the chance of winning €300 if you have the correct finishing combination.
Midsummers Day with the Stars
The annual Midsummers day with the Stars will take place at Roscommon Racecourse on Sunday 24th June. Year on year this county music festival continues to grow and attracts an attendance from all parts of the country. Featuring this year will be Nathan Carter, Robert Mizzell, Mike Denver, Patrick Feeney, Declan Nerney, Philomena Begley, Cliona Hagan, Johnny Brady and a host of other artists. The show will commence at 2pm and there will be free car parking. Admission is just €25, and tickets can be bought locally in O’Brien’s.
On Sunday night in the Abbey Hotel the Festival Dane will take place with Mike Denver and his Band will provide the music. Dancing from 9.30pm.

The society’s third outing of 2018 to Roscommon Golf Club was a brilliant success with a great turnout. This been Captain Jackie McDonnell’s Captains Day. There was a lovely
display of prizes to be won. The day started off with heavy rain and looked ominous, but miraculously when play started the sun came out and for the third outing in a row the was again beautiful. Some great scores were returned, with three players on 36 points, one on 35 and a 34 with the winner Tony Patton scoring an excellent 38 points. Well done Mick, the competition was tough with only a few points separating the first three. Lough Ree Golfing Society looks forward to their next outing on 20th July at Dunmurry Springs in Kildare.
