Lanesboro Ballylesgue notes 5th April’10

Lanesboro – Ballyleague Notes

Rose of St. Faithleach’s

The St. Faithleach’s GAA club will once again be selecting a ‘Rose of St. Faithleach’s’ to go forward to the Rose of Roscommon competition later in the month. It is a wonderful opportunity for a local lady to go forward and represent the region in the world renowned Rose of Tralee in August. Saturday night next 10th April in St. Faithleach’s Clubhouse the selection of the local ‘Rose’ will take place and if the success of last year is replicated then it is a night not to be missed.  Go along and enjoy what will be wonderful night in the company of local people selecting the local favourite to represent our area.

Sympathy

We would like to extend our sincere sympathy to Joan and Alan Farrell and family, Ballyleague, on Sunday 28th March of Joan’s father Eamon Matthews, Virginia, Co. Cavan.

Connaught Champion

Congratulations to Brian Murtagh son of Andy and Breda Murtagh, and his team mates of the Roscommon County Under 21 team who defeated Sligo in a tense Connaught Final in Sligo on Saturday last. We wish Brian and the team well as they now go forward in the All Ireland semi final.

Break In

Last week proved to be a trying time for two local businesses when in the dark of night, both had their premises entered and had items stolen. Bord na Mona and Chris Cullen’s service station and shop on the Longford Road were broken into and while Bord na Mona escaped relatively easily the same, I am afraid to say, was not the same for Cullen’s. If anybody has any information or seen anything suspicious at the time of these robberies could they give the information to the local Gardai. We must be alert to anything suspicious happening in our area and report anything that seems out of place immediately.

Welcome to the ISA

The Irish Sailing Association (ISA) has recently been approached to become a part of the growing interest in the boating on the Shannon and Lough Ree. It has greeted the approach with a great deal of enthusiasm and it is a tremendous achievement for the local area to be associated with the controlling and regulating and governing body for all forms of recreational and competitive activities involving sail and engine powered craft in Ireland. There has always been a demand for greater use and development of water based facilities in the area and the opportunity is now being presented to us and it is something we should embrace with open arms. The ISA interests spans from the person enjoying their craft solely for leisure, to those availing of water facilities for sporting and Olympic preparations and achievements and professional users of the waterways. In the near future all vested interests in any of the mentioned activities will be invited to a meeting in Lanesboro where members of ISA will address and seek support. If you have an interest and have not yet been approached you should leave your name and contact details in O’Brien’s Corner Shop where a contact and expression of interest list is being formed. This includes people not only from the Lanesboro and Ballyleague area but also from surrounding parishes and towns.
