Exciting New Zero2Tri Programme
Lanesboro Triathlon Club are launching their very first Zero2Tri programme with the objective of taking beginners in all or any of the three disciplines and developing them into triathletes ready to compete in the Two Provinces Triathlon in June 2018. Or if you just wish to join the club to train or compete at any one of the three disciplines.
What the Tri club are interested in are potential members of all abilities and ambitions. As a club there are members for 8 years to 65+, varying from those competing at a national level to those interested in keeping active and meeting new people and all in between.
For anyone interested in taking part they have the option to attend three of Lanesboro Tri Club training sessions before becoming a club member.
To become a triathlete, you do not need anything more than your usual gym or training clothes and any bike! Once open water swimming begins in May/June a wetsuit is needed but not until then. It is a common myth that there is a need for different types of clothing, bikes etc. Come along on the evening and all this will be gone through with you.
As part of the Zero2Tri programme the club has allocated additional coaching specifically for new members with the intention of developing new members. Of course, if a member is for example a strong runner and a weak swimmer they can join the experienced run group and the beginner swim group where they will benefit for a smaller athlete to coach ratio and more focused coaching.
In addition to the beginner focused coaching the club will also provide the following to all new members:
– Beginner triathlete training programme
– Club mentor if required
– Training races
– Club target races – Club lists races and events which they intend to target throughout the season
– Run training – Friday, Lanesboro track
– Bike/turbo training – Wednesday, Lanesboro Co Op Hall,
– Swim Training – Monday, Roscommon swimming pool
Following on from the launch night anyone interested is invited to attend any of the following open training sessions or please contact us via Facebook mail:
– Run – Friday 19th January 8PM, Lanesboro track
– Bike/turbo training – Wednesday 17th 7PM, Lanesboro Co Op Hall,
– Swim Training – Monday 15th January 9PM, Roscommon swimming pool
Thank You
Ballyleague Christmas Lights committee wish to sincerely thank everybody in the community who helped make or fundraising table quiz a resounding success on Friday night last. The committee wish to extend our gratitude to James and Marie of Rosie’s at the Lifebelt Bar for facilitating the event and to local business and members of the community who gave spot prizes or donations.
New Crime alert initiative
In the wake of a number of violent attacks on elderly people in rural areas around the country in recent weeks, a new initiative on rural crime and health care in the community will be launched for the Lanesborough-Ballyleague, Rathcline-Kilgefin area on Monday night January 29th at 9pm in St. Mary’s Hall beside the bridge in Lanesborough.
This pilot plan will examine the demand for CCTV cameras in rural parts of each parish and give parishioners the very latest news and information on how new IT and digital skills training can not only help their security but improve their health as well.
We are appealing to ALL parishioners who are presently on the Community text alert programme scheme in the parish of Rathcline and the parish of Kilgefin to come along on Monday night January 29th in St Marys hall at the bridge – when one of the speakers will be a relative of an elderly man who was beaten and robbed in his own home in the midlands. The Gardaí have also been invited to attend. A representative of each community group in the two parishes is also invited to attend this important meeting. We do not want any part of the two parishes to be left out of the new scheme for the cameras so come along if you want your townland to be included. Do not say you were not asked.

Historic Digital Hub Town
As you may be aware, Lanesboro/Ballyleague have just launched our very own Town App. With many more digital developments in the pipeline, we are set to become Ireland’s first ever, DIGITAL HUB TOWN!!
We are very aware there are many people that are not familiar with modern technology, so in a bid to have as many people take advantage of the countless benefits that come along with these developments we are offering free training for any individual or groups to take part in.
The training covers the very basics in digital skills and no previous experience is necessary.
If you know someone who might benefit from being taught how to use their smart phone, tablet, laptop or PC. then let them know about our training classes. We want everyone to benefit from this opportunity and are offering full support to make it so.
Training takes place in Lanesboro Community College on weekday evenings and trainees will complete the course with a good working knowledge of how apps work and will have the skills to navigate the internet for their own needs.
For more information or to book a place on the Digital Skills Training Course, please contact Debbie on 0862230971.
Also, if you know of a group or business that is not currently listed on the Town App please let tell them to get in touch and I will add them, furnish them with log in details and training; if needed.
To download the Town App, please visit the ‘Play Store’ or ‘App Store’ on your mobile device and search for Lanesborough – Ballyleague App.

Rathcline GAA
Ticket sellers for 50/50 required
The onus is on everyone in the club minor club and senior club, players and parents to come together and just sell between 5/10 tickets each at their work places and make the draw pool a really substantial amount each week. This draw has the potential at only €2 a ticket to be a big boost to the winner each week if we really put our shoulder to the wheel and help make the pool substantial. We must all make the effort.
Let’s make Monday night a night to look forward to each week for the coming year.
Rathcline wish everyone the very best for a happy and healthy 2018 and look forward to your support.
