Coaching Underage Players
Are you interested in getting involved in the coaching of the young Shannon Gaels underage players? The minor club are actively seeking people to coach the young players. All interested will be coached in the coaching techniques required and you will not be asked to step coldly into coaching. The coaching and development of coaches for underage players is ongoing promotion for the minor club and presently there are some excellent coaches involving themselves in the club. This is an ideal way for ex-players and those interested in coaching to get involved and they will receive continuous support as they grow into full fledged coaches. While some people do not want to get into management this new and exciting initiative from the club is one that should be supported to the fullest. If you are interested please contact Sean Kenny, Seadna Ryan or coaching officer Cian O’Brien 086-1768502.

Rural Transport
Longford Community Resources Ltd is delighted with the news that the Rural Transport Programme is included in the Proposed Renewed Programme for Government. Hopefully it will be allowed to continue to provide the quality community based public transport system, to respond to local needs in the rural communities. Many thanks to everybody who supported and lobbied for the Programme following the McCarthy report.
As all 20 Routes are contracted to Local Providers, so we would encourage everybody to avail of the “Door to Door” Service in your region, there are some spaces available, so better to “use it” or “lose it”.

Would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Ronan and Margaret Cullen and family, Rathcline Road on the death of Ronan’s mother Mrs. Mary Ellen Cullen, Drumshambo, Co. Leitrim who was in her 102nd year.
Shape up with Bonnie
Pilates takes place in St. Mary’s Parish Hall, Lanesboro and you can shape up with the excellent Bonnie every Thursday night at 7pm. The present course will take place between now and Christmas with a new course commencing early in the New Year. Pilates is an excellent way of getting into shape and it is the most effective way to tone and strengthen. New members welcome anytime and all you need to bring along with you is a mat. For further information please contact Bonnie phone 0872238237.
Sympathy
We would like to extend our sincere sympathy to Josephine Donlon her husband Patsy and family, Lehery, on the death of her brother in law Joe Devlin, Newtowncashel last week. On a personal I note I would like to also pay my respect to one of the finest people I had to the pleasure to meet. May Joe rest in peace and may his wife Liza’s sadness be made easier by the lasting great memories Joe gave to her and to those who had the pleasure to know him.
Riverside Chorus
This call is to parents who know their young people are capable of singing. There is a new and dynamic youth choir being formed in the area and if your young person likes singing then this is the place for them to be. Riverside Chorus will sing everything from Bach to the Beatles and it promises to be a wonderful experience for those lucky young people. This is a new venture in Lanesboro area and it is something that has been badly needed in the area. Please contact Edel Loftus and she will have further information, phone 086-8399835.
Sympathy
We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Tom Farrell, Lanesboro, formerly Rathcline, on the death of his sister Hannah Fagan, Claris Newtowncashel who died during the past week. Hannah had a large number of relatives in our parish and we extend our sympathy to them also.
Point to Point
For the first time in many years a Point to Point comes very close to us. Sunday week 29th November sees the Longford and Westmeath Hunt will hold their Point to Point in Killashee on Magan’s land on the Clondra road. It is a wonderful day and a great way of passing a Sunday afternoon with all the family.
Community Games lacks support
The very existence of the once proud Community Games committee in the parish of Rathcline is now in serious doubt. This has come about by the total indifference by the parents of the parish to the two recent calls for an AGM. Apart from the outgoing executive at the recent attempt to hold the AGM only one, yes one, parent from the parish decided to turn up.
The parish has a long and proud record of participation and achievements in the county and national Community Games and it is a shame that the young people of the parish are not being afforded the opportunity to display their skills in the many different disciplines that makes up the Community Games. Sharon Brady, Rathcline Road is the secretary and I would appeal to parents to give their expression of interest to her before it is too late for the Community Games in Lanesboro and for the young people of the parish.

World Champion
It is a very rare thing for me to have to welcome a World Champion to Lanesboro and it is with a great sense of pride that I welcome Kevin Mc Kenna. Kevin is son of Berney and Carmel Mc Kenna, Barnacor. Kevin recently competed in the 2009 Martial Arts World Championships and not only did he win the gold medal but he also took home a silver and two bronze medals. This is a wonderful achievement for Kevin who put the disappointment of losing so narrowly in the previous championship to excel. Kevin really set the Marina Di Carrara, Italy alight with his wonderful performances and achievement. Kevin won the individual gold medal and was declared world champion in the 60kg points karate, won silver in 60kg traditional karate and the two bronze medals were won in the higher weight division of 65kg in the points karate and traditional karate. This is a magnificent performance e and I would like to congratulate Kevin on the fulfilling of his dream.
