Lanesboro Ballyleague notes 24th July 2017

      Lanesboro Ballyleague

Hugely Exciting Weekend Ahead

This weekend will we hope will be the start one of the most memorable couple of weeks in the area for a long time both on and off the playing field.

On Friday evening next 28th July, the events will kick off with the official launch of the Lough Ree Monster Festival in the Lough Ree Resource Centre (Old Convent Hall) at 7pm. The committee would like to invite everyone to come along and be part of our opening. This we hope will be launch of a fabulous two weeks in the community.

Later, at 8.30pm the play The Lough Ree Monster will make its stage debut in St. Mary’s Hall. This play has been a wonderful collaboration of the communities of Lanesboro, Cashel and Ballyleague. The play written by Cashel man John Kenny has been directed by Dermot Healy. Dermot has great experience in directing as he has directed plays for the Cashel Drama Group over the years. The cast of the play and the parts they play are: Con Sweeney – James Flaherty. Packie – Stephen Dowd. Sally – Orla O’ Brien. Syl Reynolds – Mervin Johnston. Teddy Sweeney – Gerard Farrell. Ngozu – Anna O Brien. Jimmy Watson – Diarmuid Walsh. Captain Christian Lorgen – Tom Gill. Gerty Strousholm – Barbara Martin. Garda 1 – Mark Casey. Garda 2 –  Declan Fox.

On Saturday night 29th the second night of the play will again take place in St. Mary’s Hall.

Booking is essential as it is only admission by booking only. As I write the Friday night show is very close to being full. Saturday night has started to fill over the past few days so it is essential that you are going to be disappointed by not having booked in time.

On Sunday, all the traffic will flow out of Ballyleague and Lanesboro towards Dublin for what we hope will be another famous victory by Roscommon and their place in the All-Ireland semi-final. Roscommon will take on Mayo in an all Connacht clash. The Murtagh brothers – Ciaran, Diarmuid and Brian and David Rooney are our local representatives on the Roscommon panel with Ciaran being captain. The excitement will continue to grow as the weeks goes on and will reach a crescendo on Sunday when Roscommon run onto the field. Croke Park will be vibrating when the local supporters arrive and hopefully cheer Roscommon on to what will be another fabulous victory. We wish the lads, their fellow panel members and team management the very best of luck we are with you all the way.
