Lanesboro Ballyleague
Cycle Against Suicide
On the this coming Friday 28th April Lanesboro Community College will be joining with the Cycle Against Suicide community to let people in every corner of the island of Ireland know that: it’s OK not to feel OK; and it’s absolutely OK to ask for help. As one of the designated ‘Anchor Schools’ they will be co-hosting events, celebrity speakers and exhibitions to raise awareness of the considerable help and supports that are available for anyone battling depression, self-harm, at risk of suicide or those bereaved by suicide.
Commencing with an address at 11.30am by the Principal, Bernice Martin, our Chaplin, Ann-Maire Keenan will then introduce the speakers for the morning which will include Willie Hegarty from Shannonside and Ciaran Mullooly from RTE. Adam Farrell, who as a member of Dáil na nÓg has campaigned tirelessly for improved facilities for young people, will have some interesting things to say from the perspective of the students. Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Denis Naughton, TD and Eugene Murphy TD will make a guest appearance. There will be information stands around the hall from the Samaritans, ChildLine, TeenLine, Vita House, The Attic, An Gaisce, Spun Out and Mental Health Ireland. Volunteers from these organisations will be delighted to talk to you about their work and answer any questions you might have.
The cyclists will be arriving in around 1.15 and we will provide rest, refreshment and entertainment for these wonderful volunteers. Live music and fresh food will be on offer and we even brought in an ice-cream van for the day! Once everybody is ready to take to the road again around 3pm a contingent of students and teachers from Lanesboro Community College will be escorting the Cycle against Suicide cyclists through our town and on to their next stop.
As an Anchor School, we have all worked together preparing for this event. We hope it will help to bring everybody in our community together in raising awareness that:
it’s OK not to feel OK; and it’s absolutely OK to ask for help.

Death
One of the oldest families in the parish of Rathcline lost a member of their family when we learned of the news of the death at Innis Ree Lodge Ballyleague on Wednesday last 19th April of Kathleen Gibbons, Clonfower following a short illness. Katty as she was most commonly known was a lady of quiet disposition. Until her retirement, she worked as a nurse where she was hugely respected for the quality of care and attention she gave to her patients. Katty lived with her sister in Clonfower and she was a lady of great local knowledge and had a great interest in the events of the parish. Since her retirement, she was seen working on the farm alongside her sister Eva. Katty presence in the community of Clonfower will be sadly missed.
Katty’s remains reposed at Farrell’s Funeral Home on Friday last before her removal to St. Mary’s Church, Lanesboro. Following her Funeral Mass, she was laid to rest in Clonbonny cemetery. To her sister Eva, brother Kevin, relatives and friends we extend our heartfelt sympathy.

Kathleen was highly respected in the area and her demise has left a huge void in the hearts and minds of everyone that knew. The memory of Kathleen will undoubtedly bring a smile to their face as Kathleen’s they recall her mannerism and impish ways.
