Shannon Banks

The area along the banks of the Shannon is looking particularly well despite the summer we are having and it is great to see so many local people using the area at every opportunity. The car park and playground area is usually a hive of activity and the green area and banks leading to the harbour is also well utilised. The only disappointment is the old duck pond, an area that is drawing so much comment at the moment. It is a shame that this area has not been completed and it is the only eyesore and irritation amidst a beautiful amenity for the local community.

Hopefully the pond will be completed in the very near future and the local community can once again admire the wildlife living in and around the pond.

The minor club would like to extend its deepest sympathy to Marie her daughter Edel and son Patrick Mulvihill and the extended Mulvihill family on the death of Frank Mulvihill, Carraroe on Saturday last. Frank was uncle of club chairman Sean Kenny to whom we also extend our sincere sympathy.

Wheelbarrow Race – The Wheelbarrow Race proved to be an outstanding success with great interest being shown. The club is extremely grateful to all that took part and also those that contributed so generously to the very successful event. Unfortunately the same could not be said of the bar-b-que and music supplied by Colm Mulligan. The music was brilliant Colm Mulligan’s performance was truly second to none. The bar-b-que by Stephen and Tina Dowd was truly delicious and we would like to extend our sincere and most grateful thanks to all of them. We would also like to thank the parents and supporters that did turn up but in truth the numbers were a great disappointment. It was a particular shame that there was not a greater turnout of parents and parishioners to what was to be a memorable PARISH NIGHT. The minor club does tremendous work on the field coaching and developing the youth of the parish and it is functions such as these that they depend on to help finance all the developments in the coaching, training and togging out of these young players.

The club encourages everybody to support the Senior club in their fundraising efforts , starting with a Monster bingo in Lanesborough and Ballyleague on Sunday 13 Sept at 3 pm with a jackpot of 5,000 euros.
