Rathcline Lottery results
There was a jackpot of €1300 to be won in the Rathcline GAA lottery on Saturday night last 19th April. The numbers drawn were 13, 16, 22, 26, 36 and 43. There was nobody lucky enough to have four of the numbers and the jackpot will now rise to €1,400 for the draw on Saturday night next. The four €25 winners were Tom Morris, Cloontuskert, Basil Mitchell, Lehery, Karina Mulvihill, Newtowncashel and Sean Keane Clonbonny.
Wedding
The marriage took place on Friday 11th April at St. Mary’s Church Newtowncashel of Janet Melia, daughter of Sean and Ann Melia, Derryglosh, Newtowncashel and Enda Kenny, son of Henry and Mary Kenny, Cloontuskert. The chief bridesmaid was Lorraine Melia, sister of the bride and the bridesmaids were Adrianna and Clara Melia, sisters of the bride. Bestman was Henry Kenny, brother of the groom while groomsmen were Brendan Healy and David Malone, both friends of the groom. The marriage ceremony was celebrated by Fr. Gerard Brady, Newtowncashel, assisted by Fr. John Mc Manus, Ballyleague. The wedding reception was held in Leixlip Manor, Leixlip, Co. Dublin
Badminton Club
Congratulations to the Mixed Grade 5 team who represented Longford in the Leinster Inter County League in Dublin on Sunday 13th April. The semi-final took place in Baldoyle where the team beat Westmeath to go forward to the final in Whitehall against Wicklow on the same afternoon. After some close and exciting games, both teams ended up on level points, but unfortunately Lanesboro were narrowly beaten by two sets and took the runner-up position in the Grade 5 Leinster Inter County League. Well done to Francis Casey, Mark Bermingham, Keith and Niall Healy, Mary Flanagan, Edel Mc Dermott, Maura Duffy and Gráinne Gallagher. Thanks also to our sub and supporters who travelled to Dublin. A great experience and achievement for the club well done to all.
Diarmuid Murtagh a Star
Diarmuid Murtagh, son of Andy and Breda, completely dominated last Saturday’s All-Ireland Under 21 semi-final in Portlaoise against Cork. Diarmuid, is one of the outstanding forwards at any grade in the country and as if proof was need he, again, showed his full range of skills, reinstating the acclaim in which he is held. Diarmuid with a massive haul of 10 points proved to be the star man on Saturday.
Although the game finished in some controversy, and it was a late free from a very acute angle that Diarmuid pointed, Roscommon were a better and most composed throughout.
We also congratulate Ray Cox, son of Patsy and Olive, who is part of the team management and playing a vital rose in Roscommon’s success.
Saturday next Diarmuid along with his brother Ciarán, travel with the Roscommon senior side to Croke Park where they will contest the Division 3 league final against Cavan at 7pm. Also playing a pivotal role in the management is Wally Burke and we wish them all every success on Saturday.
Boro closing in on Double
Boro concluded their league campaign with an away game against Longford Wanderers in Michael Neary Park in Longford on last Saturday week. On a lovely sunny afternoon the game was not long in springing into action with both sides on the attack but it was Boro that broke the deadlock through a cool finish from James Hanley. That was followed later in the half by a calm finish by David Harrison after he took on his man on the left hand side beat him and slotted the ball under the on rushing goalkeeper. The first half ended with Boro in a strong position leading on a scoreline of 2-0.
The second half started lively in the same vein as the first with the home side trying to push Boro back but Boro stuck again through James Hanley who picked up the ball after some good build up play and sent the keeper the wrong way finishing into the bottom corner. Boro didn’t have it all their own way and the home side forced a series of corners. Boro made their dominance count mid-way through the second half with further goals from Daragh Hussey, David Rooney and Keelan O Grady to seal a comfortable win which leave Boro perched on top of the table. With other games still left to play Boro could be joined at the top and forced into a play off.
On a fine Saturday evening Boro took on Ballinahown in the semi-final of the Division 1 Cup at the Athletic Grounds in Mullingar. Boro started the game at a high tempo creating chances through good work in the centre by Henry Kenny and Aidan Dooney. Boro’s dominance started to tell in the game with two efforts hitting the woodwork and a handful of good saves by the Ballinahown goalkeeper. Midway through the first half Boro made the break through from a throw in from Jason Tarmey to James Hanley who swiveled and shot producing a great save before Daragh Hussey followed in and finished neatly. Ballinahown then had a chance of their own from a corner and they headed against the bar. Ballinahown had little more of the ball in the first half and the Boro pressure seen them earn a second goal when a cross from David Harrison was handled in the box and the penalty was awarded. David Rooney calmly slotted the penalty away for 2-0 in the first half.
The second half started in a similar vein with Boro dominating possession and creating numerous chances drawing a number of saves from the Ballinahown keeper. Ballinahown did up the ante towards the end of the game were awarded a free kick just outside the box with 10 minutes left. The free kick was fired high into the top corner just evading Mark Tarmey in goals. Boro almost replied immediately but again the Ballinahown keeper kept his team in the game. That was it final score 2-1 with Boro value for more with excellent performances from Mike Morrissey, Barry Clarke, Clem Mc Cormack and Jason Tarmey at the back limiting the opposition to just a couple of chances in the 90 minutes.

Social Even Returns
The monthly Social Evening returns on Sunday evening next in Clarke’s bar on Sunday evening next. The success of this social evening just continues to grow and it is becoming one of the focal point for people to come along and dance and or just chat in a warm and congenial environment. Go along on Sunday evening next 27th between 4 and 6pm and become part of a great community event. Music this Sunday will be provided by the very popular Sharon Turley.
Drop In Centre
County Longford Youth Service “Drop in” returns to the Co Op Hall Lanesboro on the 25th April at 6.00pm following the Easter Break. The Drop in is open to all young people of secondary school age and provides a safe and secure environment for over 80 young people in the Lanesboro and Ballyleague area. If you are interested in finding out more about the Drop in or would like to volunteer contact County Longford Youth Service on 043-3340907.
Lamb Festival Celebration
You are warmly invited to attend the ‘Thanksgiving for the flocks of the field ‘ in St Coman’s Parish Church, Roscommon on Wednesday 30th April at 8pm.
This will be a celebration in music and verse. The programme includes; Harp ensemble, the Strokestown choral group, a glimpse of the Passover.
There will also be a presentation of knitted prayer shawls to the Roscommon Palliative Care team.
The Guest organist for the celebration will be Mike Thomas’s.
The thanksgiving ceremony will be led by Rev Liz McKinney and Monsignor Travers.
There is a warm invited extended to each and every one to go along and attend.

Bag Packing at Tesco: Huge thanks and much appreciation to our St. Faithleachs GAA club members who took part in the ‘bag packing at Tesco Roscommon on Thursday last for Habitat for Humanity Ireland, in partnership with St. Faithleachs GAA Club. Many thanks to all who supported same.
Paddy Bolger Memorial Tournament: The Annual Paddy Bolger Memorial Tournament will take place at St. Faithleachs GAA Club Grounds on Saturday 10th May.

Rathcline GAA
Hard luck to the Intermediate team against Cashel on Friday. Cashel arrived with purpose and controlled a lot of the game. Well taken points and frees had Rathcline subdued. The lads got back into the match in the second half, but just couldn’t bridge the gap. Up next is Moydow in the league.

Rathcline Ladies
The U 16 team received the points when Ballymore couldn’t field. Training continues for the senior ladies on Wednesday night.
Rathcline Minors
Congratulations again to the minor club on re running the hugely successful Lanesboro’s Got Talent, last Sunday night. What a show it was!
Hard luck to the Longford Minors, they put up a great display against a strong Dublin side.

Ballyleague Village Renewal
Ballyleague & Lanesborough Area Mens Shed wish to say thanks to everybody who supported their ‘Easter Splash & Dash’ car wash fundraiser last weekend at the Top Filling Station in Ballyleague. Over 200 cars were washed over the two days and the lads really appreciate the broad support of the community for this project. The funds raised will go to the new community garden project – which is already up and running after the first visit by Horticulturalist Brendan Farrell last Thursday night. The Mens Shed wish to thank each and every person who came along, brought their car for a wash or just donated over the two days. Thanks also to Joe and Martina for the use of the forecourt at Daybreak and to Alan Horohoe for the use of the 2nd power washer. Special thanks to every person who came along and helped out over the two days. It was a great effort. If you would like to join the Mens Shed drop into Joe Cribbin at Daybreak and have a chat. He will fill you in on what’s involved.
SPRING CLEAN: Ballyleague Tidy Towns will stage their third annual Spring Clean on Saturday morning next April 26th at 10am. The meeting point is the Waterways Ireland Marina in Ballyleague and this week there is a special appeal for residents in the area to come out and focus on the foot paths and green areas in their own vicinity. Please come out and support this initiative. Thank You.
