Lanesboro Ballyleague notes
Death
The death occurred in the excellent care of Roscommon Hospice on Saturday 2nd September of Martina Ryan (Cribbin), Ballyclare Court, Ballyleague. Martina had been ill for a time and she fought her illness with great fortitude and dignity. As a person she was a warm and friendly lady with an amazing warm smile that highlighted her wonderful personality.
Martina along with her partner Joe Cribbin came to Lanesboro where they ran what is known locally as Harrison Shop (Inver) in Ballyleague. Martina, originally from Clonmel, Co. Tipperary was an avid Waterford hurling supporter and especially of the club hurling team of Ballygunner. She had a lifelong passion for greyhound racing and especially coursing and a lifelong ambition to win a national Coursing title. Martina’s passing will sadden the hearts of everyone that had the pleasure to know her.
Martina reposed at Fennessy’s Funeral Home, Clonmel. Her Funeral Mass took place in St. Molleran’s Church, Carrick-on-Suir on Tuesday 5th September followed by burial in Churchtown cemetery.
We extend our deepest sympathy to her partner, Joe Cribbin, parents Tom and Marie, her sister Claire, her brother, Dermot and their extended families.
Wedding
The marriage took place on Thursday 7th September at Lough Rynn Castle and Estate of Shannon Whitlow daughter of Tracy Whitlow, The and Lee Connell, son of Mick and Mary Connell, Cloontuskert. Matron of Honour was Erin Corroon sister of the groom and bridesmaids were Leah Boyd cousin of the bride and Kerrie Dunne sister of the groom. Bestman was Ethan Connell brother of the groom and groomsmen were Darren Dunne brother in law of the groom and Michael Connell cousin of the groom. Page boy was Oscar Corroon nephew of the groom and the Pageboy was Evie Corroon niece of the groom. The marriage ceremony was performed by Enda Harte. The wedding reception took place in Lough Rynn Hotel. We wish the happy couple many years of wedded happiness.
Sympathy
We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Sarah Crinigan and her extended family, Longford Road on the recent death in England of her mother Peggy Nichols.
Triathlon Celebrate 2023
The annual end of year function took place at St. Faithleach’s clubhouse on Saturday night last. Lanesboro Tri club celebrated the class of 2023 with a great club night out and the acknowledgement of the 2023 newbie’s.

From those there at its inception to the newcomers of 2023 the club is just lie a big family continuing to grow and being part of all the communities that the club serves. Judging by the spread of club members last Saturday travelling to different triathlon events countrywide it goes to show the great comradery and spirit that exists in the club with most making it back to the end of season function.

International Angling
The King of the Lake International Pike competition was held over last weekend and it brought fishermen from far and wide to fish Lough Ree in the hope of being crowned King of the Lake. While it may not have been the best of weather for fishing – bright and sunny – it was weather that encouraged many people to gather around the river spectating on the departure and arrival back in of the boats.
The town early morning was buzzing with boats travelling to Ballyleague Marina for their start and again in the evenings where a barbecue was laid on at the Yacht Bar. It was great to see so many enjoying the fare and creating a great atmosphere in town.
