Lanesboro Ballyleague notes
Leinster Champions
Many congratulations to Lanesboro Community College on winning the North Leinster Division 2 Cup Final on Thursday last with a tremendous victory over Coláiste Cill Dara at St. Loman’s GAA club in Mullingar. This was a fabulous victory by a team moulded together by Joe Rooney and teachers Mr. O’Dwyer, Mr. Donnelly, Mr. Mulvey and Mr. Heery.
This is the second final of the school year for this team having already qualified for the Division 1 shield Final. Joe Rooney’s fingerprints have been all over the school football teams for so many years and it is great to see Joe and the team management celebrating one final win with another to come.
Joint captains Michael Salami and Jason Glancy accepted the winning trophy on behalf of a very excited winning panel. Missing from the final team on the day was regular centre back Darragh Cox
Good luck lads in the second final.

Pride upon Pride
All road on Saturday last led to the very impressive Downs GAA club outside of Mullingar for the All-Ireland Intermediate semi-final where our local heroes St. Faithleach’s played Meath and Leinster Champions Trim. The exodus from the community was huge and all travelled with great expectation of a final in Croke Park next week.
The game was tense and tight right from the start and this trend continued right up to the very end. The goal scored in the first half by Trim proved to be decisive in the end where they won by that goal margin.
The performance of the team was again top drawer and the battling qualities of this bunch of lads seen throughout their Roscommon and Connaught Championship was once again to the fore. Right up to the very end of the game the game hung in the balance and it was only a late score from Trim that gave them the breathing space.
The performance of the St. Faithleach’s panel and management during the county, Connaught championship and the All-Ireland semi-final made the people of the parish of Kilgefin and indeed our community very proud of their achievements. Their incredible run was cheered and excited those from the community no matter where you went locally. The success of the St. Faithleach’s club has brought pride upon pride to this wonderful bunch of players and management. We would like to congratulate every one of those that worked so hard for this success and brought a great pride to our community.
Death
It was with a great sadness we learned of the death at the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar on Thursday last of John Burke, Lough Ree Park. John a native of Cam, Brideswell came to live amongst us a number of years ago. He was a very popular man and previously was an owner of a machinery business. John was a most inoffensive man whose soft and gentle manner was always a pleasure to behold. Joh n was a man always generous of spirit. He immediately became a popular figure within the community. He was extremely proud of his native Cam Brideswell community and would always remember many great occasions there. He will be sadly and greatly missed by everyone that had the pleasure to know him. His remains reposed at St. Brigid’s Funeral Home, Brideswell on Sunday. His funeral cortège left the Funeral Home for St. Brigid’s Church, Curraghboy for the Mass of the Resurrection on Monday, Burial took place after Mass in Cam Cemetery.
To his partner Anne, uncle Frank Watson, cousins, relatives and friends we extend our deepest sympathy.

Ballyboro FC
The under 14s emerged with a point following a closely contested game with Ballymahon. Ballyboro were on top in the first half but squandered a number of goal scoring opportunities. Somewhat against the run of play Ballymahon scored halfway through the second half only for the outstanding Noah McLoughlin to secure a deserved equaliser for Ballyboro with 5 minutes to play. Team: Mikie Sorohan, Eoin Beattie, Aidan Kelly, Michael Nolan, John Farrell, Ethan Slattery, Cody Phelan, Noah McLoughlin, Rian Shanley, Leon Malkowski, Eoin Connell. Subs: Ciaran McGloin, Emry Kaya.
It was certainly a game of two halves in the under 13 clash with Inny Rovers. There was nothing between the teams in the first half. Inny edged in front courtesy of a disputed penalty but in the second period they assumed control and added four more goals. Ballyboro: Mikie Sorohan, Sean O’Dowd, Emry Kaya, Ciaran McGloin, Dan Casey, Sean Farrell, Leon Malkowski, Oisin Dillon, Eoin Beattie, Harry Brogan, Sean Collins. Subs: Evan Rooney, Liam Dolan.
The under 8s participated in a Blitz in The Mall on Saturday along with Melview and Gaels United while much good football was on display in the under 10s game with Ardagh United.
