LanesBrew
Last Saturday morning the newest business on our Main St., opened its doors to the public and without any fanfare or publicity it was amazing how busy the new business was in its early days of trading.
As you can gather from the name LanesBrew that we are talking about the new Coffee Shop opened by cousins Brenda, daughter of Mary and the late Michael Carroll and Regina, daughter of Sean and Anne Carroll.
It was amazing how the ambiance of the Main Street was change by the new business with big numbers of customers throughout Saturday and Sunday availing of the outdoor seating area which created a new laid back and carefree mood on our Main Street.
We wish the girls the very best of success in the new business.
Death
It was with great sadness and regret we learned of the death on Tuesday 20th July of Rita Wyer, Church View. Rita a native of Clara, Co. Offaly returned from England a number of years to live amongst us in Church View. Rita was left a widow in England with a very young family after the death of husband JJ. In the intervening time she met John Carter who was a great support in raising her family and moved to Lanesboro with her where they both integrated very easily into our community. Rita was a tireless worker, and it was in her job in a laundrette that she thrived in the work she loved doing as well as the interaction with the customers. She was a very popular lady and a great conversationalist. She was a woman who loved the game of bingo and adored her little dog who was a great companion to her following the death of John Carter. In recent times Rita’s health had been failing but nonetheless her passing as a great shock to us all.
To her daughters, Joan, Elizabeth, and Valerie, sons Paul and John, sisters Moll, Frances, Peg, and Patsy, brother Kevin, relatives and friends we extend our deepest sympathy.
Rita reposed at Farrell’s Funeral Home on Thursday before been removed to St. Mary’s Church on Friday 23rd for her Funeral Mass. Burial took place following Mass to Clonbonny cemetery.
Music Time continues
The wonderful musical collaboration between the Longford County Council, Shane Crossan and the Clancy family for musical entertainment in the Distillery Yard has proven to be something very special for the community. With the entertainment of the highest quality, it has blended in so magically with the huge numbers availing of the wonderful weather and congregating along the bay area of the majestic River Shannon. It has been fabulous to see both banks of the river been so hugely populated with people enjoying themselves and availing of the area.

Book your boat trip.
The Access for All boat is making trips three times a day Monday to Friday – 10am, 12 noon and 2pm and it is a very popular excursion for able bodied and those with disabilities. Bookings are very high and early booking is advisable to ensure travelling at your chosen time. At the moment there are limited excursions out to Lough Ree for its 1½ hr trip on Saturdays. The trip is proving very popular with families and indeed a man in Australia told me the other day that he can’t wait to get home to his native Newtowncashel and the first thing he is going to do is take the trip out on the boat.
The absolutely brilliant trip with an excellent on-board staff will take approximately 1½ hours.
