Trish Feehily is offering a new Eco Refill service in Johnston’s Pharmacy on Main Street. You can reduce your plastic waste by reusing your own containers to stock up from a range of eco-friendly cleaning and bathroom products.

Local Leader Onboarding

You are invited to join the Grow Remote group of people who are interested in using remote work (employment) as a way in helping local communities. The course is free, with part self-paced and part live sessions.

You will be with 130 other local community leaders.

At present there is a Government plan being proposed to relocate people from the cities and have them working remotely. This is an ideal opportunity to bring the old convent building into play and convert it for remote workers and meeting spaces.

Trócaire

Trócaire boxes are available in the church porch or you can make a direct contribution at www.trocaire.org You are reminded that there are only a few weeks left until the boxes have to be returned and we would urge everyone to continue their donations to the box thus ensuring that there is a wonderful response to a very special cause.

Green Kilometre Scheme

Cllr Pat O’Toole recently came up with what I think is a brilliant scheme that is the Green Kilometre Scheme where individual or groups to choose a Kilometre or longer stretch of rural road or a loop for basic upkeep.

The work would be done with the support of Longford County Council and the individuals/group would commit to keep and maintain the selected for 12 months.

Pat suggests that the job description should include hedge maintenance, sowing flowers and/or shrubs, litter picking and the care of heritage features.

I have written many times about the large of amount of littering taking place on the roads around the area and this would be an effective way of cleaning up our area and creating local pride in our area. This, I am sure, would also be a huge help to the local FÁS workers upon their return to full time duty when the restrictions are lifted to allow them back to work.

There is no doubt that this could be carried out on both sides of the bridge as a community project where many hands would make light of the large amount of work needed to be done.
