Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes
Funding
Ballyboro Collaboration Group back in the autumn of 2020 applied for funding under the Town &Villages 2020 scheme. Last week the Collaboration group received a grant from the Department with Longford County Council Regeneration matching 10% of the total allocation bringing the total allocated funding to €79,800.
This funding is towards local signage, flag poles for the bridge and marketing to aid and assist our community to rebrand itself after the loss of ESB to the community.
This was the first grant application applied for and it is wonderful to see that it has been successful. Well done to the collaboration group and let us hope that they can lead us to bigger and better things in the near future.
World Gin Awards
For the second week in a row members of the Clancy family, Rathcline Road have been highlighting in the news as this week the Lough Ree Distillery received the news that their Aiteal Distilled Irish Gin was awarded Country winner – Signature Botanical Gin at the World Gin Awards.
Aiteal is distilled and bottled in Lanesboro using only Irish Juniper and Irish Whey Spirit, making it the only 100% Irish Gin.
Congratulations to the Clancy family and the staff of Lough Ree Distillery.
Sympathy
The news of the death at Tallaght Hospital on Tuesday 16th February of Eddie Clouder, shocked all of us that knew him. Eddie was a relative of the Reilly family, Rathcline. Eddie during his lifetime experienced a slight disability. In his informative years he went to Fermoyle National School. Like us all at that time Eddie was a frequent visitor to Eddie Kelly’s cinema and had a passion for hurling and Manchester Utd.. He spent over 50 years as a resident of Peamount Hospital, Dublin, where he lived his life in one of their bungalows shared with other residents. Eddie was a valued member of the Peamount Hospital community. He was well able to look after himself, he lived each day to the fullest, had great confidence in himself and was adept at all the work that he was asked to do by the staff.
The generations of the Reilly family in Rathcline had a wonderful quality about themselves, were tremendous to Eddie all his life. They shared and celebrated his life and were always available to him. He had a wonderful love of the Reilly family, so much so, he asked that when he was to pass away that he be buried alongside them in Rathcline.
As his remains left Tallaght Hospital it detoured via Peamount Hospital where the staff and residents gave him an emotional send off as he travelled to St. Mary’s Church Lanesboro for his Funeral Mass. Following Mass on Thursday 25th February Eddie was laid to rest in Rathcline Cemetery.
To the Reilly family Carmel, Pat, Marian, Dolores, and Seamus, extended family and the staff of Peamount Hospital we extend our deepest sympathy.
Birth
Many congratulations to Ciara Gillen and her husband Eamonn Farrell, Tullyvrane on the birth last week of a baby boy.
