Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes
Support for local Businesses
Business owners and organisations throughout the counties of Longford and Roscommon are encouraging the public to shop in their local communities in the lead up to Christmas to provide a much-needed boost to local business and to the local economy that is in such a difficult position due to CoronaVirus-19 and the level 5 restrictions. The motto this Christmas should be ‘Think and Buy Locally.’ By pulling together we are ensuring that our local businesses will continue into the future.
New Greenway success
Last weekend seen our new greenway been the busiest since it became accessible for walkers and cyclists. There were times that parking down at the barrier was at a premium. Not only are people walking the greenway but also walking over the Bord na Mona bridge and creating the longer loop down Salmon’s Lane. All of this is fabulous giving our walking community different walking options.
These walks are bringing great joy and happiness to people that they now have extended and safe walks in our own area. It is great to see the continued growth of walkers and cyclists and the developments of this greenways has encouraged more and more people to get out and get active.
A few weeks ago, I made an appeal for those that walk their dogs on the greenway to ensure that they clean up their dog foul. We all know that dogs are indiscriminate in where they foul and we sincerely ask all dog owners to ensure that they clean up after their dogs and keep the area clean for all walkers and in particular all the young people who use the facility be they cycling or walking.
Roscommon Biography
The Dictionary of Roscommon Biography has proved to be a wonderful book creating a great interest with its astonishing detail. This is a must for Roscommon people and also those of us that know many families in the county. There is a remarkable fact unknown to me and others I spoke to of Ger Farrell (Adie’s father), and his brother included. It is a book once you open it you will find it difficult to leave down as the information just keeps jumping off the pages at you. This huge volume priced at only €30 can be purchased in O’Brien’s while stocks last.

Death
The death occurred on Monday 19th October at the Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore, of Pat Murtagh, Ballyclare, Ballyleague. Pat, a native of Moyvore, Co. Westmeath moved to Ballyclare a number of years ago when he bought what was Cahill’s family home. He instantly became a popular figure in the community where his warmth and friendliness endeared him to everyone that came into contact with him. He was a very involved member of the ‘mens club. Pat was a brother of Mary Fallon, Ballinwooley, Curraghroe. Although not a long time amongst us his passing leaves a great void in our community. His warmth, cheeriness and welcoming greeting will be sadly missed.
Pat’s remains were removed to St. Patrick’s Church, Moyvore on Wednesday last 21st for his Funeral Mass. Following Mass his remains were removed to Lakelands Funeral Home and Crematorium, Cavan.
Pat is survived by his daughter, Madalene, sons David and Peter, brothers PJ, John and Billy, sisters Mary, Breda, Josie, Louise and Nora, relatives and friend to whom we extend our deepest sympathy.

Seeing a Counsellor
Seeing a counsellor does not mean that there is something wrong with you. It may mean that you like to learn new ways to cope with different situations, create new thinking patterns and help with a traumatic experience. If this is something you would like to explore you are asked to phone 0433341511.
