Another link completed
While out walking on Friday last, I ventured along the route of the new linkway from Kilnacarrow to Cloonbearla. I was delighted to seen Vinnie McGowan and his son Oisín of McGowan Metal Fabrication were completing the installation of the new bridge that links the roadway to the bog. This bridge is a vital link and while the roadway has now to be raised and the pathway has yet to be completed and this happens it will create what will be a magnificent amenity for all walkers and cyclists.
In a time when all the news is very downbeat it is great to have a wonderful story to tell. This linkway is the creation of an amenity that will enhance our area while being of great benefit to local and tourists alike.
With more walking routes are beginning to appear over the past few weeks it is great to see and hear so many availing of the good weather and getting their youngsters out walking and cycling with them.
Social Distancing
Day in day out we are hearing the need for social distancing. Social distancing is important to help slow the spread of coronavirus and while travelling around the roads of our community it is great to see everyone adhering to social distancing. In the long run it will mean a lot to the control and eradication of the Coronavirus from our midst.
Sympathy
We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Ray and Jacinta Mc Cormack, Fermoyle, Eilish Mc Cormack, Tullyvrane their families and the extended Mc Cormack families on the death of Christopher Mc Cormack, at Beaumont Hospital on Wednesday 1st April. Christopher was nephew of Ray and son of Padraig and Kathleen Mc Cormack.
Lanesboro Library
To help contain the spread of Covid-19, all branches of Longford County Library will be closed to the public until 19th April 2020. All meetings and events have been postponed until a later date.
Death
It was with the greatest of sadness we learned of the death at her residence on Thursday 2nd April of Nancy Kelly, Cloontuskert. Nancy was predeceased by her husband Tommy John, son Michael, sister Bessie Lavin and son-in-law John Yorke. Nancy will always be remembered as a warm friendly and chatty lady. She loved the interaction with people and was a great conversationalist. She was the most welcoming of women and she would be available to help anyone in their time of need. She had a great pride in her Cloontuskert area and the success of not only her family but the entire community. She was a lady that always encouraged everyone to be and do the best for themselves. Her great, warm and friendly smile and greeting was a feature of the lady. Her passing will leave a great void in the hearts and minds of everyone that knew her. She was an excellent neighbour and friend to so many.
Due to the current restrictions on wakes and church services due to the Coronavirus we all missed paying our last respects to her family, but we deeply feel the pain of her family. Her remains were laid to rest in Cloontuskert Cemetery on Saturday last. We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to her family Mary, Padraig, Triona, Margaret, Oliver, Bernie and Bosco, sister Mary, relatives and many friends.
Death
On Thursday last we were further shocked and saddened when news broke of the sudden death at her residence on the Strokestown Road of Imelda Sweeney. Imelda was predeceased by her parents Packie and Florrie and her brother Tim. Imelda turned 60 on Wednesday was seemingly in great form on the day as she was joking with a friend whose birthday was on the following day. Imelda was a popular figure in the community and the amount of people that commented to me on how they enjoyed her company for it fun and wit. Invariably when you seen Imelda you also seen her daughter Florence. There was an incredible bond between both ladies. Imelda will be sadly missed by everyone that knew and enjoyed her company. Our community will also be the poorer for her warmth and homeliness and we are all the less by her absence.

Birth
We would like to extend our heartiest congratulations to Emma Donlon and Stephen Ormsby, Ballyclare Court, on the birth last week of a baby girl.

Sympathy
We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the Deirdre Carberry and family, Killinure and the extended Carberry family, Derryhaun and further afield on the death of Mairead Cairbre. Mags as she was commonly known in this locality played a major part in the inaugural hosting of Éigse Peter Carberry that was held last year in honour of her late father Pete.

Parish Newsletter
The parish newsletter will be printed each week and it will be available in the Church porch from Friday afternoon. The newsletter will also be available from Friday afternoon in O’Brien’s Corner Shop.
Parish Finances
The current crisis is impacting significantly on the Parish Financial Resources and the ability to meet responsibilities. Parishioners are encouraged to drop off offertory and priest’s dues envelopes into the presbytery and NOT to put them in the box in the church porch.
Online donation fraud
You are asked to be vigilante if contacted by any online payment companies offering to set up parish donation services. In the current climate it would be prudent not to respond directly to these emails as requests may not be legitimate.
Easter Services
Alternatively, you can see the Services on RTÉ 1 TV beginning with Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Thursday at 11am. Good Friday the Solemn Liturgy at 3pm and the Leap of Faith at 10pm. The Holy Saturday Vigil will take place at 10pm.
All Services will be live from the cathedral, Mullingar.

Gun Club
Easter Draw Postponed
In light of the Covid-19 restrictions, the club will postpone the planned Easter Draw on Saturday 11th April in Joe Farrell’s Pub. For anyone who had purchased tickets, we hope to run this draw later in the year.
St. Mary’s Parish Hall
The health and safety of our community is of paramount importance. Therefore, St. Mary’s Hall will remain closed until further notice. All key holders are reminded of this closure in order to curtail the spread of Coronavirus.
