Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes
Death
It was his great shock and sadness we learned of the sudden death at his residence in Carraroe of Mark O’Brien. Mark originally from Finglas, Dublin became a well-known figure following his arrival from Dublin. He was predeceased three years ago by his father Ken. Mark in his time served as a policeman in the English Police before moving back to work with the Dublin Fire Brigade for a number of years. Mark in recent years spent time in Nepal teaching English. He was very proud Dubliner and an ardent supporter of the Dublin football team. He gained great pleasure from their winning of the Sam Maguire for the fifth time in a row. He was a very pleasant man whose welcoming manner and politeness stood him apart from the rest. Mark will be sadly missed.
His remains reposed at Farrell’s Funeral Home on Friday before being removed to St. Mary’s Church for his Funeral Mass. Following Mass Mark was laid to rest in Clonbonny Cemetery.
To his mother Kay, brothers Alan and Kenneth, sister Niamh, son Conor, relatives and many friends we extend our sincere sympathy.
Congratulations
Many congratulations to both the St. Faithleach’sU14and Senior teams on their winning of county titles on Sunday last. It was a tremendous achievement for the club and it shows that there is a wonderful future ahead for the club.
Bord na Mona Estates Mass
What started out as a Mass for residence and former residents of the Bord na Mona Green estate has become an annual event with growing numbers each year. This year the Mass has been extended to families from the Bord na Mona estates of Cloontuskert and Derryhaun present and past being invited to participate.
The organiser would like to invite everyone that lived in the three estates to Lanesboro for 10am Mass on Thursday 14th November to remember their deceased relatives and to meet and relive old times with former workmates, friends and neighbours.
Following Mass there will be light refreshments in St. Mary’s Parish Hall where everyone is invited to continue the chat and renew old contacts.

Where do you Park?
When going to Mass at St. Mary’s Church where do you park? Time and time again reminders are being sent out in relation to parking in the vicinity of the Green and Church Road. Parking on the Green should only be on one side only so as to allow free access for emergency vehicles to enter and exit the estate. When parking please ensure that the entrance to the pathways are left clear. On the Church Road parking should only take place on one side only down as far as the end of the church site. Double parking on this stretch would mean that emergency service vehicles could not get through and have to reverse back down the road as in this area there is no place for turning.
In the coming weeks there will be road surfacing and pipe works happening in the Green estate and everyone is asked to be conscious of this and to realise that some of the cars from the Green may be parked out of the estate on the roadside hence lesser parking spaces in the vicinity of the church.
First Irish Cap
Many congratulations to Jack Tucker, son of Martin and Sarah, Mount Cashel, who won his first cap for Ireland when he was selected to play in the U18 international against Italy in Italy last weekend. Although a last-minute try denied Jack of a winning first cap it was a tremendous honour to represent his country at International level. Jack has made steady progress through the ranks in Connacht Rugby and his elevation to international level is well deserved. We congratulate Jack on his fabulous achievement and are sure that there will be many more days in the green of Ireland in the years to come.
Thank You
The local Pioneer Total Abstinence Association would like to sincerely thank everyone that contributed to their recent Church Gate collection.

Ballyboro
Last weekend was a momentous one for the club, as a project that was first mooted at the club’s AGM in September last year finally became a reality. All weekend the new 3 G pitch was a hive of activity with various tams training, and groups of all ages and abilities enjoyed a social hours football. Thanks are due to all who worked so hard to ensure that a facility that cost in excess of a quarter of minion euro became a reality in little more than a year, and fully paid for to boot. A hard-working committee met weekly and left no stone unturned to ensure that the dream became a reality. The club is deeply grateful to all that helped out in so many ways: to all who staged and supported the numerous fund raising events; to all the generous sponsors; to the Leader company and others for grant aid received; and in particular the club is indebted to the local community, who wholeheartedly rallied behind the project from the start. Th4e 3G pitch and the newly developed state of the art grass pitch are much needed in the area and will be of great benefit for all for many years to come. The club is appreciative of the Lough Ree Park/Shannon Heights Residents Association, and to Sean Moran FAS supervisor and his staff, who provided training facilities for the club over the past few weeks, pending the completion of the 3G pitch.
On this Friday all local national schools will be taking part in a novel 5-a-side Tournament on the 3G pitch. This Tournament is organised by Lanesboro Community College in association with the club. A cup generously sponsored by Stephen Kelly will be presented to the winning teams. There will also be awards for Goal of the Tournament and Player of the Tournament.

Under 20 Final
Sunday last in Cashel our U20 team went into battle with Carrick Sarsfields in the semi-final of U20 championship. In recent years there has been a great healthy rivalry with Carrick Sarsfields with little or nothing between any of our club teams. Sunday proved to be no different for the best part of this game and it was not until the later stages that we got the vital scores to see us through to the Final.
The final takes place on Sunday next in Pearse Park at 2.15pm when we take on Northern Gaels in what should be a cracking final. We urge all club supporters to travel to support the team and management for what we hope will be a momentous day for the club.
The panel of players is Jacub Kajun his brother Misco Kajun, Max Webb, Kian Gilmore, Briain Casey, Oran Kenny, Dylan Glancy, Seadhna Ryan, Cillian Flood, Richard Prior, Éanna McGrath, Bryn Peters, Cronan Flood, Padraig Sorohan, Owen Murray, Daniel Curran, Harvey Myhill, Kevin Tansey, Dean O’Reilly, Óisín Kenny, Aaron Farrell, Ultan O’Sullivan, Conor Sorohan. The team is managed by Joey Rooney and his management team is Stephen Rooney, Shane Kenny, Seadna Ryan and Wayne O’Donoghue.
