Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes

Time is a changing

From Saturday/Sunday next winter time will come in and clocks will go back one hour. So don’t get caught out with the change and enjoy your extra hour in bed.

5-a-Side Pitch Opening

Bookings are now being taken for weekly rental of the new Ballyboro FC 3G Pitch at Lanesborough Community College. To book in for a 5 side match or a 9 a side game in November please register now by signing up with a user account at  www.bookapitch.com

and the venue will be there for you to select. If you want any more details send an e mail please to ballyboroastropitchcommittee@gmail.com

The new pitch is state of the art 3G and will provide great recreation time for 180 students from the school and another 150 players from the club every day of the week so places will be scarce – but there are plenty of free slots still available as we write

on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays but the advice is to get on the website early before the slots are all gone. Don’t say you were not warned!!! Thank you

Sunday night Card Game

The weekly Sunday night game continues every Sunday night in St. Mary’s Parish Hall. As we go into the winter months this is the ideal way for any card player to spend a few hours on a Sunday night. The game starts at 8.30pm and you are more than welcome to go along and have a night of card playing and many a great chat.

The game continues every Sunday night at 8.30pm sharp. All welcome. No partner needed. Refreshments served

Talented Young Artist

Following his winning in the Longford Leader “Design a Christmas Badge” in 2017 Josh Curran, son of David and Siobhan Curran, Killinure has come up trumps again when he was winner of the Age 6-8 yr. category in the Aisling Art Competition “My Place in the World” in the Aisling Festival 2019. Josh is a pupil of Fermoyle National School. Well done Josh.

No time to Prepare

Last Sunday week Marty Parker travelled to Tarmonbarry referee an underage game at 11am. Following the game Marty switched back on his phone to realise that, due to the appointed referee being suddenly unable to do the game, he had been called at the last moment to referee the County Senior Football final between Padraig Pearse’s and Roscommon Gaels in Hyde Park at 4pm. Marty proceeded to give an excellent refereeing performance as is usual with the man. Again, we congratulate him on a job well done.

The marriage of Alan Breslin son of Paddy and Ann Breslin, Cloontuskert and Ray Scott son of Joe Scott, Dublin took place at the Red Cow Moran Hotel. Maid of Honour was Ray’s cousin Aisling McGavin, Groom’s maids were Stephanie Breslin sister of Alan, Karolina Hryniewicka and Niamh O’Brien both friends of Alan. Bestman was Christopher Breslin brother of Alan. The celebrant was Lorraine McCarthy, Celebrate Ireland. The reception was held in the Red Cow Moran Hotel. We wish the happy couple many years of happiness.

Community Games AGM
On behalf of the Committee and myself, we would like to thank all of the participants whom took part in different Community Games events throughout 2019 and also to all of the people who helped in any way. We would also like to thank the people of the parish for their contributions to the Church Gate collection earlier in the year. This was very much appreciated and helps us in a big way with the running of the club.

Lanesborough Community Games are having their AGM at 9pm on Tuesday 29th Oct 2019 next week, in St Mary’s Parish Hall.

The committee would welcome and encourage everyone, especially the parents of children living in the town and hinterland of Lanesboro to attend and support Community Games in Lanesboro. Community Games covers a broad range of activities and it gives parents a chance, to allow their children to participate, socialize and display their talents. Over 100 children from the parish participated in Community Games events during 2019. You are urged to help continue to progress Community Games in the parish during 2020.’

Lough Ree AC

Congratulations to our athletes who represented Fermoyle School in Moyne on Sunday 13th October. Well done in the first place for turning up and then for taking on the cream of Connaught on a very tough and muddy course. The standard at provincial level was very high but our boys despite their lack of experience ran very well to finish in 7th team place from a field of 15 teams in the 3rd/4th Class race. The in form Oisin Dillon was first home again for the team followed by Rian Hogan who both finished in the top 20 out of a field of 110 athletes. Rian reversed the positions with Mikey Sorohan from the last day out, with Tim Kenny being the fourth man home following by Daragh Donlon and Elliot Johnston. Kudos to John Farrell who represented his school in the 5/6th class race on his own as he was the only one who qualified but fought as if his life at stake. All individual placings not to hand at the moment but may appear elsewhere in the paper. We look forward to other opportunities for these athletes to gain more experience at this level. Again, well done, we are all so proud of you for representing your school at provincial level.
