All Ireland Champion
The All Ireland Community Games finals always brings a great excitement for the local competitors, their parents and their communities. Last week was a very special young man Christian Donlon Goncalves who proved to be the fastest young man in Ireland in the Community Games Under12 100m Final in Limerick last weekend when he had a convincing win in the final. Christian is son of Carol Donlon and Marcelo Goncalves and they live in Cloontuskert.
Even as his tender age Christian has been long recognised as a very special athletic talent and his convincing win only highlighted his outstanding ability.
We congratulate Christian on his fabulous win and wish him every success in the years ahead.
Death
A great sadness enveloped the entire area when the news broke of the death in the care of the Sacred Heart Nursing Home, Roscommon of Joe Fitzpatrick, Kilrooskey on Thursday 15th August. He was predeceased by his father Sonny, mother Mai and his sister Helen O’Grady. Joe was a very popular man no matter where he went. He was a gentleman who always had his community and the wellbeing of everyone at heart. He was a warm and affable man, his warm and endearing smiling broke even the coldest of hearts. He was a tremendous supported of his native Kilgefin parish, St. Faithleach’s and Roscommon GAA and loved nothing better than to bask in their successes. He would always have been an encouraging voice. Joe was of a bubbly and warm disposition, a great neighbour and friend. He had an abiding love of his family. In the past few years Joe had been stricken with a virus, but it was never to dampen his spirit nor lively heart. Any of that knew Joe will always remember the warmth and sincerity of his welcome and his chats. He formed a very popular band, Joe and the Gentlemen who were very successful on the local scene. Joe will be sadly missed but always remembered by so many.
His remains reposed in Smyth’s Funeral Home on Friday last before being removed to St. Mary’s Ballagh. On Saturday following Mass of the Resurrection Joe was laid to rest in Derrane Cemetery.
To his wife, Bridget, sons Jonathan and Michael, daughters Katelyn and Hallie, sisters Kay, Maura and Nuala, relatives and many friends we extend our deepest sympathy.

Engagement
We would like to congratulate Leonie Mahon, daughter of Michael and Caroline Mahon, Barnacor, on her recent engagement to Niall Mc Nally, son of Terry and Renee Mc Nally, Tralee, Co. Kerry.
Sympathy
We would like to extend our deepest sympathy for the family, partner and friends of the late Shirley Marlowe, Derryhaun. Shirley was predeceased by her father Jim. She had recently moved to Knock Manor having secured one of the new houses there but unfortunately, she had been in hospital most of the time since receiving the house. Shirley for a time, a number of years ago, was a very popular hairdresser in Lanesboro before moving away. Her passing saddened the hearts of all that knew her, and we extend our deepest sympathy to her mother Mary, sister Marie, brothers David and James, partner Michael, relatives and friends. Shirley reposed in Glennon’s Funeral Home on Friday last. Here remains were removed to St. Dominic’s Church, Kenagh where her Funeral mass was followed in Kilcommac cemetery.

They then recorded an excellent win over Hodson Bay Celtic. This win saw them qualify for the Plate final where they lost out to a very strong Kells team.
