Lough Ree Golfing Society
The first outing of the year was to County Longford Golf Club last Friday 19th April, The Society was blessed with 20 degrees of sunshine and with the course in excellent conditions which set up the members for good scoring. This definitely transpired with 40pts, 38pts, and 37pts for the first 3 places, and 6 others in the thirties. All present expressed delight with the day, and thanks to County Longford Golf Club. Judging from the competitiveness of the first day it will be another tight contest for Golfer of the Year in 2019
The days results were: 1st Tony Patton 40 pts, 2nd Aidan Cassidy 38pts, 3rd Fintan Jordan 37pts. Nearest the Pin Ronan Cullen, Longest Drive Fintan Jordan, Front Nine Michael Brennan, Back Nine Timmy Glynn.
Former Resident Passes Away
I have just been informed of the death in Manchester on 5th January of former Green resident Mrs. Margaret (Peggy) Touhy. Margaret was predeceased by her late husband Paddy lived in number 10. We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the Touhy family, relatives and friends.
A New Play by Tommy Murray
Roscommon resident and former Lanesboro man Tommy Murray, playwright and poet has written a new play that will make its debut by the Roscommon Drama Group on the stage of the Arts Centre Roscommon. The play based on the true story of Athleague famous vet Aleen Cust and her mentor William Byrne. As reported in the Irish Times By her achievement, Aleen Cust not only overcame barriers of tradition and sexism but she courageously opened up a career path for women. The play will run on Thursday 2nd, Friday 3rd, and Saturday 4th May at 8pm.

Tidy Towns Lotto
The lucky numbers drawn last week were 22, 23, 25 and 28. The winner of the €50 prize was Marie Mc Grath, Derrygeel, and the three €20 winners were Tiernan Hanley, Corrigeen, Ann Pam Feeney, Rathcline and Dorothy Fagan c/o Market. The jackpot now stands at €3,200.
For the Easter Draw on Tuesday next 23rd April the prizes will be an increase in the prizes given out apart from the jackpot the secondary prizes will be €100 and three €50 prizes.

Thanksto everyone that has already sent me photographs and also contacted me and told me they would look some up and get them to me. Seeing what has come in so far is great to see and recall memories. Don’t delay or depend on anyone else to send them please forward them on to me. It is just a flick on your phone, camera, iPad and forward it to me at joea@iol.ie.
If you don’t have a photograph from your time on the Green a family photograph from a later date will do. You can also drop them into me in the shop where I will scan them and return them to you there and then. I am also looking for photograph of the apprentices and lodgers that stayed on the Green.
50/50
On Monday night last, the draw took place for the weekly 50/50 draw. This week our winner was Clara Ginty, New York City. The winning envelope this week was worth €412. We congratulate Clara on her win and thank her for her support. Maybe next week it can be your turn, all you have to do is to buy a ticket for €2 to be in the draw.
It is wonderful to see the 50/50 continuing to rise each week and a special thank you to all of you that are new to supporting the draw and those weekly contributors. Let’s hope that in the very near future the draw each will consistently top the €500 mark and it can with your continued support.

As you now know there are two alternatives for those that would like to play the 50/50 by paying in advance. Option 1 is the green envelope where you pay €50 for a six-month term with one free draw and Option 2 is the pink envelope where you pay €100 for a 12-month period with two free draws. Those tickets are available in any of the local outlets or from any member of the club executive.

Lough Ree Sub Aqua Club
Club members travelled to Killary for the Easter weekend to kick off the dive season. Congratulation to our new trainees as this was their first open water dive and they all had a fantasise experience where they logged 6 amazing dives. Training will continue in Lanesboro next Thursday evening at 7pm and members are asked to bring full gear. Coxswain training will also take place for members who have to log some hours on the boat.

Saturday week 4th May is the date for the Roscommon Under 9 to 11 Indoor Competition and the venue is the AIT International Arena in Athlone. Entries are due in this week so only a couple more training sessions to go. Congratulations to Kilgefin Community Games Committee on their recent very successful track and field evening at St Faithleach’s with one of the best turnouts in recent years. Lanesboro Community Games Committee is currently looking to finalise a suitable date for the competition this side of the bridge. We will advise as soon as the date is finalised.

The Longford Branch of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland will host their annual tea day on Thursday 2nd May from 10.00am to 2.00pm in their office at Number 2, Earl Street, Longford All monies raised will help to maintain vital services throughout County Longford. Alzheimers Café
The next Alzheimer cafe will be held on this Wednesday 24th April at 7.00pm. in the room at the back of Longford Credit Union. Entrance and car parking facility are at the rear of the building, between Longford Shopping Centre and Longford Motor taxation office. Guest Speaker on the night is Pat Chapman, Citizens Information, and his topic is The Fair Deal. This is an information and social evening with tea, coffee, and refreshments been served. Ballyboro
The under 12 team gave a skilful and committed performance
when they played Melview and were unfortunate not to emerge with at least a
share of the spoils. The game hinged on two controversial penalty decisions
neither of which went the Ballyboro boys way. Melview emerged on top on a 2-1
scoreline. Christian Donlon scored the Ballyboro goal. Team: Aidan Kelly, Anthony

The rehearsals for the big OSKAR Night are in full swing at
present.
Last Man Standing 2 is nearing a conclusion with just 14
remaining out of an initial entry of 550.
The club will be staging the Ultimate Sports Table Quiz in Adie’s
on Friday week 3rd May. Sports clubs and organisations in the region are very
welcome to take part.
Fixtures: The under 9s will be involved in a Blitz at home on Saturday along with Ardagh and Gaels United. The action gets underway at 11am.The under 10s play Gaels United in the Shield semi-final at 11am on Saturday in The Mall Astro. The under 12s are away to Newtown Bears in the Major League Championship on this Wednesday 24th,kick off 7pm.The under 12s have another game on Sunday when they are at home to Melview at 1.30.On Saturday at 1.30 the under 13s play Stonepark in Abbeycartron in the League Premier Division Shield.
