Death

What can we say that in anyway can be sufficient to describe the man we lost last week? On Thursday last 15th November the news broke of the death at Mullingar Regional Hospital of Billy Clabby, Lisnacusha saddened us all. Billy to young and old was a man of great character, a man of great spirit and life. He epitomised everything that was good in life. Billy was a wonderful person with a great love of his parish. He was a great supporter of all and wanted everybody to be successful in all they done, and he was full of encouragement. No more will we receive that warm welcome and great smile. Billy left us lots of memories and you cannot be filled with a warmth when you think of him. He lived his life in Lisnacusha and there was not a local event that he was not in attendance. He loved to dance and there was much music and happiness in his heart and life. Billy was a diligent farmer and farmed his land with a keen interest and love of nature. He was a wonderful neighbour and friend and his passing will leave us all the poorer for his departing but richer for having known him.

His remains reposed at his residence on Friday last and on Saturday he was removed to St. Mary’s Church Lanesboro for his Funeral Mass. Interment took place afterwards to Rathcline cemetery. To his sister Marcella, nephews, nieces, and a legion of friends we extend our sincere sympathy.

Lough Ree AC

The highlight of last Sunday’s run was the performance of Tadgh Shea.  For the first time the starter decided to let all runners off together.  After about 60 metres Tadgh, one of our youngest runners was with the leading group, then he fell on the hard tarmac and was lucky nobody fell on top of him… Did he cry …. you must be joking!!!!! The youngster got up, dusted himself down and carried on.  If that did not show character, there was more to come.  Ten minutes later who was second runner to the pass the finish line but our hero.  10/10 for his performance may it be the first of many.

Congratulations to Longford AC on their success at the Longford Sports Star Awards at the weekend. Sunday morning runs continue in Clonbonny and looking forward to our Junior Christmas morning Fun Run.  More details later.

Ballyboro Astro

The Ballyboro Astro Football committee is developing a new sports facility in the area for the good of the community and has decided to hold auditions in the first week of January with a view to staging ‘a Night in Hollywood’ an ‘Oscar Night’ spectacular around Easter next year – as a major fundraiser for our new community astro pitch at the Community College here. We would now like to hear from all local people who have an interest in taking a short acting role in one of these compact 8-10-minute-long film scenes – which will be filmed around St Patricks Day and played for the one and only time at the big screen at our big Oscar night show. We need up to 140 people to take part – there will be up to 8 films to choose from (such as The Field , Sister Act, Brave Heart, Forest Gump etc ) there will be small speaking roles , silent roles and lots of extras required and a producer will be laid on to help you get into the role for the film so it’s going to be lots of fun and should be good craic too. If you’re up for a bit of craic and a Big Big night out after Easter to help us raise funds for the community pitch please contact any member of our committee: Jason Fallon, Stephen Rooney, Eddie Kelly, Seamus Sorohan, Karl Crawford, Mark Tarmey, Lee Cullen, Ann McGloin, Ronnie Johnston, Eamon Bolger, Kevin Connaughton, John Tynan, Ciaran Mullooly, Carol Donlon, Dave Gilmore, Kieran Feeney. Ballyboro

It was a busy weekend once again with five teams in action.
The under 9s were involved in a very productive blitz on Saturday along with Melview and Gaels United. All the players performed very well, and they can be very pleased with their displays. Panel: Charlie Boardman, Darragh Donlon, Cathal Hanley, Alfie Murphy, Shane Farrell, Harry Brogan, James Carroll, Jack Cassidy, Tim Kenny, Josh Curran.
An understrength under 11 team found Melview a bit too strong for them. After a disjointed first half the team improved in the second period, and considering it was their first game of the season they will improve from game to game. Panel: Michael Sorohan, Callum Farrell, Rian Hogan, Ethan Slattery, Rian Shanley, Ryan Mimnagh, Eoin Beattie, Ciaran McGloin, Dan Casey, Eoin Farrell.
The under 13 team were in fine fettle versus Castlepollard and they finished as comfortable winners. Team and scorers: Sam Glennon, Josh Crawford, Cormac O’Dowd, Jack Casey (2), James Mimnagh, Christian Donlon (1), Joey Trimble (2), Alex Forde, Conor Farrell, Eoin”Mbappe”Cox (4), Euan Cullen. subs Jack Naughton(1),Luke Cullen.
The under 16 team performed very well against UCL Harps before going down by the odd goal in seven. Goals by Jack Murray (2), and Kevin Tansey for Ballyboro left the teams level halfway through the second half, but a lack of discipline which resulted in a red card was to prove costly, as UCL scored a late goal to snatch the spoils. Team: Jack Madigan, Chris O’Loughlin, Shane Kenny, Kevin McDonagh, Cormac Casey, Oisin Kenny, Rian Mimnagh, Kevin Tansey, Jack Murray, Niall Fisher, Cillian Cox. Sub. Callum Gordon.
The 14s lost out to a very useful UCL team on Saturday. UCL won the under 13 league last year and they had too many aces for the Ballyboro lads. Team: Briain Farrell, Jack McGloin, Jack Flynn, Bryan Mullooly, Paul Byrne, Ciaran O’Dowd, Ryan Byrne, Shane Ross, Christy Burke, Matthew Heneghan, Sam Murphy. Subs Cormac O’Dowd, Luke Dowd.
The Last Man Standing fundraiser for the Astroturf Project is proving very popular. All cards must be in by this Thursday. Cards are available from any committee member.

Fixtures: The under 8s will be participating in a blitz on Saturday in Drumlish starting at 11am. Other teams involved are Inny FC and Gaels United.

The under 10s play Ballymahon at Ballymahon Astro on Saturday k.o. 12 noon. Fixtures for the under 12, under 14, and under 16 teams not to hand.
