Out of Town News
For too long the news from me has been going only one way – informing everyone out of the area as to what is happening in their own and former community.
I am now inviting everyone that has a connection, even a tenuous one, to the Lanesboro, Ballyleague towns, the Rathcline and Kilgefin parishes to share their family news with us. In the recent past we had a birth in Canada (congratulations, again, Martin and Emma) followed a week later by a death also, as it happens, in Canada of the late Pat Monaghan and it is great to be able to share the out of town news with everyone.
You can email me on joea@iol.ie and I would love to hear from you.
Birth
Many congratulations to Eilish and Ivan Ruske, Rathcline Road, on the recent birth of a baby boy.
Clarkes Leave Us
Like Bord na Mona’s announcement last week we always knew that the same fate was to befall us in terms of Clarke’s Machinery on the Longford Road. Clarke’s arrive to their workshop as a stop gap until their premises was ready. Business and the location proved to be very successful for them there and for the past numbers of years they have done excellent business at their Lanesboro base. Expansion and further developments mean that their Lanesboro site became too small and they had no option to move to their new base on the Strokestown/Boyle Road outside Roscommon Town. We would like to wish them the very best for the future and thank them being a part of our community for the years they were with us.
Good Luck
We would like to wish Rathcline the very best of luck as they embark on a Leinster Intermediate campaign on Saturday next in Wexford. (See Rathcline notes)

Have you a Recipe?
The Rathcline GAA Annual ‘Cake Fare’ that will take place on Sunday 9th December in St. Marys Parish Hall is seeking your help in collecting recipes you may have and that you may like to share them. The idea is to produce a collection with all your recipes included and, on the 9th December, it is intended to launch a collection of recipes gathered from around Rathcline parish. This idea has really taken off and a host of people have already shared their recipes. Recipes have been flowing in and as the closing date for the recipes is fast approaching it is very important that you, if you wish to share your recipe, get your recipe in as quickly as possible.
In recent years there has been a great shift to the number of men cooking and baking and the committee would love to hear from them as well as all the ladies that are continually creating great food and confectionery from their chosen recipes.
If you would like to have your favourite recipe or indeed an old family one included in the publication, simply handwrite or type it up and leave it in to Joe or Martina O’Brien or you can contact Pat Connerton on 0861617501 or Michelle Connerton on 0861699466.
Without doubt there are surely a huge number of recipes handed down safely stowed away in presses, drawers and attics. Now is the time to dust them off and share them with us. Thanking you in advance.
With time closing in for the printing of the booklet you are asked to get your recipes to us as soon as possible as we will have the booklet available for the Cake Fare
The club is looking forward to hearing from everybody with a connection to our parish and we look forward to adding your recipe into the publication.

Ballyleague Kilgefin Christmas Lights

To get a good start it is imperative that we have as many helpers as possible on this day as 90 per cent of the work will be done on that day so this is an appeal to everyone in the town and the local area who is available to come along on the 17th. The meeting point is Ballyleague hall at 10.30am and, with lots of help, we will be finished in a few hours. If you can help in any way, please call Noel Moran at 086 2936180
Defibrillator Course and Refresher
There are a number of clubs and associations in our community and it is very important every one of them have a number of people trained in the use of the defibrillator.

There is a great need for new people to learn the use of the defibrillator and there are a number of people that their refresher course is now due. Good Luck
We would like to wish the senior team the very best of luck on Saturday next when they travel to O’Kennedy Park, New Ross, Co. Wexford for the Quarter Final of the Leinster Intermediate Championship where they will play Horeswood. The game is scheduled to have a 1.30pm throw in. This is a wonderful opportunity for our young team as they are growing game by game and we hope that large crowd will travel to support the team and hopefully cheer them on to victory. Looking at AA route planner the journey takes almost 3 hours and the route is Kilbeggan, Tullamore, Mountmellick, Portlaoise, Abbeyleix, Durrow, on the outskirts of Kilkenny follow directions onto the M9 for Waterford, come off at the Mullinavat exit and continue to New Ross. For those using satnavs the Eircode for O’Kennedy Park is Y34 X095
Tremendous Victory
Last Sunday in Pearse Park was a major occasion for our, now senior championship team, when they had a very important game against Granard to seek promotion to Division 1 League for the 2019 season. The game was as tough as you would expect between the two teams, one wanting to protect their Division1 status while the other wanting to achieve promotion to the Division.
Granard were in control in the first half and were in a comfortable lead at half time. They extended their lead to eight points at the halfway stage of the second half. That was when the fightback came and the lads really tore into the last 15 minutes, overturned the Granard lead and in a pulsating finish emerged victorious on a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-11. Well done to all concerned and we look forward to playing Division 1 and Senior Championship football in 2019.

Like the football it is “Minor, Senior, ladies and Gents”. Looking forward to hearing from everybody and especially adding your recipe into the publication.
