Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes
All Ireland Final
Many congratulations to local lad Paddy Neilan, son of Paddy and Bernadette Neilan, Lough Ree Park on being appointed linesman at this year’s All-Ireland Final between Dublin and Tyrone on Sunday next 2nd September. Paddy’s star continues to rise in refereeing circles and this appointment is further recognition of his great performances during the year.
School Reunion
A 50th anniversary reunion/gathering of first year classmates of September 1968 who started their second level education in Lanesboro Vocational School on that day will take place this coming Saturday.
It is taking place on Saturday 1st September next at 2.30pm in Lanesboro Community College and as it’s the 50th anniversary it should be marked and indeed celebrated.
Contact has been made with all classmates and it is hoped for a great turnout to catch up on life stories and hopefully to continue regular meetings such as this into the future.
There will be some food, Irish Traditional Music, a tour of the school as it is today and loads of catching up to be done.
Sadly, not all have survived the journey and there will a remembrance for deceased classmates, teachers and staff who have sadly passed away.
If you are on the list and have received an invitation, please go along and mark this special occasion in the lives of the students of 50 years ago.
Thank You
The Committee of Rathcline Ladies GAA Club would like to take this opportunity to thank the following their successful Fun Run / Walk on Saturday, 25th August: Rathcline GAA Club, Cashel GAA club, club members, team managers / trainers and support teams, volunteers, sponsors, anonymous donators along with walkers and runners on the day.
Championship
Sunday last in Allen Park Newtownforbes our Intermediate team played the quarter final of the Intermediate championship when they took on near neighbours Cashel in a local derby. As usual local derbies are tight and tense games, this game proved to be no different.
Half time saw Cashel leading by a point having played with the wind and hopes were high that with the wind on our backs that we would prevail. As it happens that was the case and we pushed ahead and with a fortuitous from a sideline kick we emerged comfortable winners.
The draw for the semi-final took place afterwards and Rathcline were drawn against Fr. Manning Gaels Drumlish in the semi final that will take place on the weekend after next 8/9th September in Pearse Park.
Donal’s Bungee Jump
On Saturday 15th September Donal Chapman will undertake a 160ft Bungee Jump to raise funds for MS Longford, Irish Wheelchair Association and DPOL Longford. This is a massive undertaking for Donal and we encourage everyone to support this Bungee jump. Sponsorship cards are available in every local business and we hope he is rewarded greatly for his bravery in this jump.

Healthcare Monitoring – have you registered?
Shannonside Digital Skills are putting together a new plan for a pilot scheme in the Lanesborough Ballyleague area in the coming months.
The scheme will allow 20 people who suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, COPD or other chronic illness to decide themselves to have their critical daily medical readings monitored by the use of new technology in the comfort of their own home through the use of broadband. These readings will then be monitored in conjunction with a specialised nurse service so that any healthcare readings of concern will be brought to the attention of the person immediately and action proposed.
This pilot project is now only at developmental stage. Participation will be purely on a voluntary basis for each person (10 from Ballyleague and 10 from Lanesborough) and each person who volunteers must firstly fill out a questionnaire and consult with their own GP.
This is the first pilot of its kind in the republic of Ireland and to find our more information please contact Debbie at (086) 223 0971 or Adrian at 04333 21734
The pilot will not start until the initial questionnaire has been successfully completed by all 20 people.
To seek a questionnaire please e mail: shannonsiderenewal@gmail.com
