Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes
Death
It was with the greatest sadness and regret we learned on Friday last 10th August at his home in Cloonadra of Peter Glennon. Pete as he was most commonly known had worked with ESB until his retirement. He was ill for just a short time and as would be his wont he faced it with a great dignity and strength. Throughout his working life Pete also worked the family land and he did so with great expertise and love of the land. He will be fondly remembered by everyone that had the pleasure to meet him. As soon as you met him it was if you knew him all your life such was his warm disposition. Pete always had the good word to say he was always encouraging and showing the interest in your progression. He was the warmest of smiles and his chats were always ones that you would always take away nuggets of information as well a smiling thought. Pete had a great love of the GAA and in particular his native St. Faithleach’s club and his county Roscommon. He was a true Gael.We were all the richer for his presence and now the poorer for his loss. We have lost a true gentleman and a true friend.
His remains reposed at his home on Saturday last. The removal of his remains took place on Sunday to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Ballyleague, for the Mass of the Resurrection. Following Mass Pete was laid to rest in Cloontuskert Cemetery.

Rathcline Cemetery
The dangerous walls on the old church in Rathcline graveyard have now been made safe. The west gable was in a very generous condition and could have collapsed on the grave stone. The joints of his entire gable have been taken out and a stainless-steel wire has been inserted into all the joints and repointed. The beautiful archway at the entrance to the church has been rebuilt. Thanks goes out to those that had this work done and who gathered the money to pay for the experts who did this dangerous job.

Healthcare Monitoring in Your Home
Shannonside Digital Skills are putting together a new plan for a pilot scheme in the Lanesborough Ballyleague area in the coming months.
The scheme will allow 20 people who suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, COPD or other chronic illness to decide themselves to have their critical daily medical readings monitored by the use of new technology in the comfort of their own home through the use of broadband. These readings will then be monitored in conjunction with a specialised nurse service so that any healthcare readings of concern will be brought to the attention of the person immediately and action proposed.
This pilot project is now only at developmental stage. Participation will be purely on a voluntary basis for each person (10 from Ballyleague and 10 from Lanesborough) and each person who volunteers must firstly fill out a questionnaire and consult with their own GP.
This is the first pilot of its kind in the republic of Ireland and to find our more information please contact Debbie at (086) 223 0971 or Adrian at 04333 21734
The pilot will not start until the initial questionnaire has been successfully completed by all 20 people.
To seek a questionnaire please e mail: shannonsiderenewal@gmail.com

Blood Donation Clinic
If you previously missed the opportunity to donate blood in Longford at the Irish Blood Transfusion Service you have the opportunity to donate in the Abbey Hotel Roscommon on Tuesday 21st, Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd August.
Blood donations during holiday time decreases and it is very important that blood donations rise at this time of the year such is the increased demands for blood for so many reasons especially the amount of accidents that occur.
