Fishing and Food Festival Review

The Lough Ree Angling Hub wish to invite all local traders, business owners and local residents to a special review of the recent festival events in Lanesborough. An estimated 6000 people visited our town on the Saturday alone during the festival and anglers from 17 countries were simply blown away by the hospitality and the facilities on offer.

The success of the festival presents a new and very significant challenge to the people of Lanesborough and Ballyleague and the wider Lough Ree area. It has been proven beyond any doubt that we can stage a world championship fishing competition of the highest calibre and the feedback after the food festival is proof that the producers and the state agencies have the highest confidence in our ability to organise the finest showcase for good food seen anywhere in this part of the country.

The future now presents both the opportunity to replicate these successes and the challenge to go even further by welcoming even more national and International visitors to our town at bigger and even better events in the coming year.

The organisers welcome all input at this stage and would like to invite all local traders, business owners, shopkeepers, publicans, food producers and everyone in the town and nearby area with an interest in the future organisation of these types of events to a public meeting in St Mary’s Parish hall beside the bridge on this Thursday 27th of October at 8.30pm. The meeting will review the festival feedback and plan for the future. The turnout of local traders and others will really dictate where we go from here so please come along.

In the meantime if you have any queries or suggestions please e mail: loughreeanglinghub@gmail.com or speak to Alan Farrell, Yacht Bar.

Christmas Lights

Ballyleague Village Renewal and Tidy Towns committee recently held a meeting to discuss Christmas lighting in the village and decided to team up with its colleagues in Lanesborough in putting plans in place yet again to bring some great colour and Christmas cheer to the local community.

This year the work will be co-ordinated by a separate committee set up last week and it is hoped to consult as much possible with anybody who is interested in helping out. The committee will be changing some of the usual plans and going green where possible. All ideas are welcome.

The committee is chaired by Noel Moran with secretary Margaret Thompson, Treasurer Gerry Trimble and a small committee helping to steer the plans into place. The group will hold a church gate collection at all masses in the Church of the Holy Rosary in Ballyleague on Saturday December 3rd and 4th and your support for the collection would be very welcome.

For more information please contact Noel at 086 2936180 or e mail: shannonsiderenewal@gmail.com
