Mothers and Others
The Mothers and Others football team will represent the community in Croke Park on Sunday week when they will play in the half time game. The Mothers and Others team is a St. Faithleach’s initiative with an increasing number having lots of fun and the appearance in Croke Park on Ladies All-Ireland Final Day. More details will follow next week.
New Traders Group Formed
Following a meeting in St. Mary’s Parish Hall a new traders group was formed in the community. The committee elected to office is Chairman: Gerard Farrell, Vice Chairman: Chris Webb, Secretary: Nicolette Spelic, Ass. Secretary: Stephanie Hanlon, Treasurer: James Casey, Ass. Treasurer: Josephine Kenny, PRO Joe O’Brien, Social Media: Ben Hussey. There will also be a representative from Lough Ree Recourses, Lough Ree Tourism, and the Lough Ree Angling Hub.
There will be a meeting this Wednesday night in St. Mary’s Parish Hall at 8pm.
Poetry on the Move
The very popular Summer ‘Poetry and Music’ at the Sisters Bistro will resume at Lanesboro Library, where the writers group meet. The Autumn gatherings will begin on Monday 19th September from 4.30 to 5.30pm.
Come along and share a favourite poem. The group is looking forward to seeing you there and to meet new people interested in poetry and music.3
Lough Ree Sub Aqua Club
The Lough Ree Sub Aqua Search and Rescue Unit was called upon to assist in the search in Bundoran. This was the third search the club assisted in during the past five weeks. Sincere thanks to the Roscommon, Mullingar and Longford Units for their assistance on all these searches. The club extends its most sincere condolences to all the families concerned.
The Family Day was well supported although the weather was not in our favour on the day.
Club and Rescue Diver training continues in Lough Owel on Thursdays.
The club holiday is fast approaching. All divers must ensure they are “dived up” and log books are all up to date. Emer has all details on times and transport.
Anyone interested in snorkelling or diving please contact any club member as our “Try a Dive” nights are coming up very soon. New members always welcome.

Lough Ree Monster 10k Race
A date for your diary and only 6 weeks away. The Lough Ree Monster group will hold a 10k and 4-mile Road race on Sunday 2nd October. The group looks forward to all local runners and their running club members and friends taking part.
St. Faithleach’s in Quarter Final
Sunday last was a vital day for the St. Faithleach’s club and depending on the results things could have gone either way. The team rose to the occasion in a major way when they had a and ready for this huge challenge and fair play to them they did not disappoint.
They will now take on Boyle in the Quarter Final for a place in the semi-final on Sunday 11th September.
Bridge Club Reopens
The Lanesboro 1973 Bridge club will resume on Wednesday 14th September in St. Mary’s Parish Hall at 7.45pm. The AGM will take place on Wednesday 21st September.

Lough Ree Monster Meeting
Have you got ideas as to what should be included? Would you like to be part of a very exciting festival? We encourage those interested from the Lanesboro, Ballyleague and the parish of Kilgefin, Cashel and Killashee to come along and help create a very special event on the banks of the Shannon from Thursday 3rd to Monday 8th August 2017.
The first meeting back takes place this Wednesday 31st August in Clarke’s Bar at 9.30pm, please note later time of meeting.
A Pilgrims Comment
The following piece is what a returning pilgrim asked me to publish: “The Elphin Diocesan Pilgrimage pilgrims have just returned from their annual visit to Lourdes. Up on 500 pilgrims made the journey to the French city, including some from our community. On enquiring from one what message they brought back from Lourdes, I was told that they intend to visit Knock more often as it is only an hour’s drive away”.
Macra is for all young people
If you are young person in the area and feel you are stifled by the lack of an active and enthusiastic club in the area. Your prayers are just about to be answered. Macra is currently looking for young people to join a new Macra club, Macra is a non-profit organisation for young people 17-35, it has 6 key activities such as Agriculture, Sports, Performing Arts, Travel, Public Speaking and Community Involvement. You don’t need to be a farmer, farmerette or even from a farming background to join. The club is open to everyone within its age group and it is one of the best and actively aware clubs in the country.

Tourism with Business Certificate
Are you looking for a career focused course? Then enrol on Longford College of Further Education’s 1-year Tourism with Business programme starting September 2016. Ireland is going through a tourism regeneration with employment potential from Centre Parcs and from initiatives such as The Wild Atlantic Way, The Greenway Cycle Project and Ireland’s Ancient East project. The course offers practical business skills for the workplace as well as accreditation from Quality Qualifications Ireland and awards up to 400 CAO points for progression to third level institutions. This course is free to those in receipt of BTEA or who qualify for a SUSI grant* and to holders of a medical card. The registration fee and government levy is €330 for all other students. Ardscoil Phádraig in Granard is currently enrolling students for QQI Level 5 courses in Animal Care and Nursing Studies. These QQI Level 5 courses are suitable for both school leavers and mature students who wish to return to education and gain new skills or employment. Last week the 50/50 draw took place on Monday night. The results of the last two 50/50 draws are Monday 22nd August the winning envelope was in the name of our Ladies and Co Board chairperson Madaleine Murray. Madaleine was the recipient of €440. Last week’s winner was Dermot Keane, Curraghroe. Dermot was the lucky winner of €397. The draw will continue weekly and you continued support is greatly appreciated. The weekly blue 50/50 envelopes are on sale locally throughout the town for €2 alternatively, you can purchase a pink ticket that allows you into the draw for 1 year for a price of €100.
