Many congratulations to everyone.

Tuesday next 2nd August the day after the August Bank Holiday is always the race meeting not to be missed. The race day coincides with the beginning of the holiday season and it is a meeting that is always hugely attended as most people home on holidays in the region make it a great day in Roscommon. It is a great day for spotting talent, that is of the equine nature. On Tuesday next it will be the very first time you will see three-year-old horses jumping hurdles. There is always a great excitement is seeing these National Hunt babies taking their first voyage over hurdles. Hottest in the Country

Met Éireann have their own weather recording station at Mount Dillon and on Tuesday last it was all the news as the that weather station was recording the highest temperature in Ireland with a high of 30 degrees (to my American readers 86°F). Unfortunately, our heat was short lived but we all hope that it will be on its way back to us very soon as the rest of the hay has to be saved and the turf still to be brought out of the bog.

Death

The tragic death of Padraic Hanley, Shannon Heights, Ballyleague occurred on Sunday 17th July. Padraic was a young man who had a most genial nature. Padraic was a very welcoming young man with a big smile and warmth of greeting always made it a pleasure to meet him. He was a tremendously hard worker as has been recounted by many people over the past number of days. Padraic was very popular amongst his peers and that was clear to be seen by the sadness shown by their number. Padraic will be sadly missed by everyone that had the pleasure knowing him and  the memory of him will never fade. Padraig remains reposed at his home on Tuesday last until the removal of his remains to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Ballyleague on Wednesday for his Funeral Mass. Following Mass his remains were laid to rest in Cloontuskert Cemetery. To his father Patsy, mother Kathleen, sister Marie, brother Alan, relatives and many friends we extend our sincere sympathy.

Philip was originally from Knock and we would also like to extend our sympathy to his brothers Tom, Seamus, Gerry and Joe, sisters Angela, Eileen and Marian. Philip was laid to rest in Cashel Cemetery on Friday last. Philip had been in failing health over a number of years. One abiding personal memory of Philip takes me back to when we were children running around Knock and Philip was our expert sword maker for all the sword fights after watching the Three Musketeers. As a result, he was always a lifelong friend and he will be sadly missed.

Rathcline GAA

Last Sunday was a bad day for us in the Senior Championship first round when we went down heavily to Carrickedmond. This was a game that we never got out of the blocks and allowed Carrickedmond dominate us.

The good thing about this year’s championship is that the chance of redemption comes around very quickly and that is the case for us as we travel to Cashel to play Ballymahon in the second round at 8pm. The very best of luck to the lads and we hope for a great enthusiastic following on Friday.

The 50/50 on Monday night 18th July was won by Sharon Rooney, Rathcline. Sharon was the lucky winner of €377. Tickets are on sale locally in all shops and the club thanks you for your continued support. The pink ticket is also available and the pink ticket is the yearly ticket and you can contribute €100 and be in for all draws over the course of the year.
