Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes Monday 23rd July 2012

Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes

Break-In

On Friday evening last 20th July the private house of JP and Pat Kilcline, Ballyleague, (next to Sliabh Bán Hotel) was broken into and the house was thoroughly gone through by robbers. It is the most heinous deed heaped upon a family to have their house and home invaded by thugs such as this. This is a hugely busy area of Ballyleague and there are always a good number of people moving in the area. If by chance you did see something that maybe at the time did not seem out of place and now that you know what happened makes it relevant can you please inform Lanesboro or Roscommon Gardaí who are investigating this robbery. Your eyes and ears are very important to help eradicate the likes of this event happening again and also we hope your information may lead to the arrest of the thugs that perpetrated this crime.

Sympathy

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Mrs Phil Hanley and son Raymond, Barnacor, on the death of Phil’s sister Mrs Kathleen Spangenberg in America last weekend.

Sub Aqua Clubhouse damaged in Fire

Monday night was a night of pure disaster for the Lough Ree Sub Aqua Club when a fire in their clubhouse caused untold and indeed an unestimateable amount of damage. True, you can price their two boats and van and equipment but you cannot even begin to put an estimate to the amount of equipment and memorabilia that has been gathered since the inception of the Lough Ree Sub Aqua Club back in 1993.

Despite the rapid response and excellent work of the Lanesboro Fire Brigade who, due to the severity of the fire, called further assistance from Ballymahon and Longford there was nothing that could be done except damage limitation  at the scene

Down through the years the Lough Ree sub Aqua club has been there in the time of need of so many families not only in the local area but throughout the entire country as their part of the search in the most recent high profile boating tragedy that took place in Glandore, Co. Cork earlier this year. They are also available for the good days too. When there is any local event celebrating life on the water such as the power boating last year, the summer school and many other water based events you can always depend on the excellent Lough Ree Sub Aqua club.

Their loss will not be amply compensated by their cover and it is important that any fundraising event held in the name of Lough Ree Sub Aqua club should be supported by the entire community. Their loss is our greater community loss and wherever you can help be you at home or away from home please offer your support or contributions.

Table Quiz for Breast Cancer

On this Friday night 27th July in the Lifebelt bar, Ballyleague, the Irish Cancer Society is holding a Table Quiz in aid of Breast Cancer support at 9pm.  Day by day there is a greater need for further exploration, research and development into breast cancer and your support on Friday night will go towards helping an immense cause that is affecting more and more women by the week. The Irish Cancer Society makes every effort to ensure that every woman diagnosed with breast cancer receives the very best care and support and the quality of life of those diagnosed is not impinged upon in any way.

Please make every effort to attend with your team of 4 for the night and your support will be hugely appreciated. A table of 4 costs €40. There will be a raffle on the night with a number of prizes to be won. If you wish to book a table or make a contribution please contact Kerrie Connell at 086-0708394.

Text Alert Update

Thank you to all the people who volunteered to go door to door to collect money, names and phone numbers. Without their help this project would not get off the ground. Thank you to Lough Ree Power Station for their donation to help purchase signs. The text messages have been bought and all the 300 or so names from the envelopes are one by one been put onto the computer. In the near future a text will be sent out to all subscribers to inform them that the system is set up. Envelopes are available from O Brien’s newsagents and you can also drop in your completed envelope to O’Brien’s.

With over 400 houses in the parish it is a measure of the support that the new initiative has already got support from just over 300 and the envelopes are still coming in. It is very important that everybody in the parish includes themselves in the service as you will never know when you need the service. For a service such as this the saying ‘All for one and one for all’ is most applicable.
