This
year the Longford MS Run from Newtowncashel to Lanesboro had the highest number

raised for Longford MS Society in the 21 years of this run will be over
€160,000. The winner this year was Gary Murphy (Kenagh), 2nd place was Declan

sincerely like to thank everyone who participated and raised sponsorship. They
would also like to say a special thank you to Peter Hanley Motors for
sponsoring the T-shirts and Catherina McKiernan and the Fatted Calf restaurant,
Glasson for sponsoring prizes and to all who donated refreshments and to
everyone who helped out on the day. Thanks to everyone for their tremendous
effort after 21 years this event is getting stronger and stronger.
A play not to be missed
Now
that the hustle and bustle of the busy Christmas period is over we turn our
minds to the year ahead and make plans for big occasions for ourselves and our
families. To get the year off to the right start the Shannon Gael hosted play
in St. Mary’s Hall has to be the ideal way for you to start the year. The
Pitch, a play that has received great reviews throughout the country, will be
staged on Saturday 21st January at 8.30pm. With limited seats
remaining you are advised not to miss the opportunity for this great night of
entertainment and tickets can be purchased or booked at O’Brien’s.
Sympathy
It
is with great sadness I record the death on Thursday last 29th
December of Seanie Reynolds, Ballykeeran, Athlone and formerly of the Green.
Seanie and indeed the Reynolds family will be long remembered in the parish of
Rathcline. He played a huge part in the Rathcline club both as a player and an
administrator where he played a huge role as chairman in developing the club.
He has battled a huge health battle over the past few years and as was his nature
he fought it with the determination he has shown throughout his life. His
passing leaves all of us that had the pleasure of his company at some stage of
our lives all the poorer. To his wife Mary, daughter Marie,
sons Shane and Paul, brothers Tom, Jim, Fr. Kevin, sisters Rosemary, Eileen, Ann,
Theresa, relatives and many friends I extend our deepest sympathy.
Birth
Heartiest
congratulations to Niall and Marie Dennigan, Mahoraveen, on the birth prior to
Christmas of a baby boy.
Sympathy
We
extend our sympathy to the Moran family, Carraroe, the Connaughton family,
Cullentra and the Hanly family, Lehery on the death of Mrs Eileen Kelly, Moydow
over the Christmas period.
Cars Galore
When
the luck of a family is in there is no end to the success it can achieve.
Lanesboro Ballyleague Credit Union held their Christmas draw recently and the
winner of the first prize of a car was won by Johnny Carberry, Cloontuskert. In
Longford town the Credit Union also held their draw for a car and lo and behold
the winner of the Longford car was none other than Cora Kelly, daughter of
Willie and Bridie Kelly, Curraghroe and niece of Johnny Carberry. Last year in
the Lanesboro Ballyleague Credit Union draw Kitty Murphy won the first prize of
a car and Kitty is sister of Johnny and aunt to Cora. What a wonderful winning
streak for one family and long may their luck continue.
Shannon Gaels
Never
is a more important meeting about to take place than on this Friday night in
St. Mary’s Parish Hall of the Shannon Gaels Minor Clubs AGM. Above all years
this meeting holds a huge significance for the young members of the Shannon
Gaels Club. It is hugely important that every parent and indeed everyone
interested in the development of on field games and off field Scór and social
activities to attend this meeting. Your attendance and voice is crucial and
never more needed. Please make a huge effort to attend this meeting that will
begin at 8pm.
Lanesboro Bridge
Club
Bridge

would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Joe and Martha Farrell, Yacht Bar,
and Paul and Ita Farrell, Tullyvrane and their families on the recent death of their
uncle Thomas Farrell, Leixlip, Co. Kildare and Grillagh, Longford.
Whist Drive
Following on
from the hugely successful Christmas Whist Drive the regular monthly Drive will
take place on this Friday night 6th January in St. Mary’s Parish

be greatly appreciated.
The committee
would like to sincerely thank everyone for their support during the year and
especially at the Christmas Whist Drive that was a tremendous success. The

they went to

for the draw
The
club would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors for
