Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes
Christmas
Greetings
I
would like to extend a very sincere wish for a wonderful Christmas and a
marvellous New Year to all readers both home and abroad. It is your support and
help throughout the year makes the notes what they are and for that I am deeply
appreciative.
This
year has been filled with happiness and sadness for many of my readers and I
can assure you that I celebrate with you in your joy and I share your sorrow
especially as you look back at this time of year. I always think of all of you
that are away from Lanesboro/Ballyleague and with the passage of time your home
is not here anymore – you are still part of the fabric that made Lanesboro and
Ballyleague and it will always be home for you and you will be guaranteed a big
welcome when you visit. I thank you for your continued interest in the area and
always appreciate your comments and queries on my notes.
I
look forward to your continued support in the coming year and hopefully during
the year I will see many of you.

There
are a number of local writers and musicians that have books, cds, and ep on

group, Tales from Roscommon and Linnane in London by local author Kieran Furey

a 16 week period with one 2 hour workshop each week.

Shannon Gaels Minor Club
The recent success of the Scór na nÓg
group has made the year a tremendous one for the Shannon Gaels minor club and
indeed for our parish. To have a team representing us in a Leinster Final is
marvellous. This shows the diversity within our club and highlights the fact
that it is not all about what happens on the pitch.
On the field we did not have one of our
better years but the future is bright with the large numbers at the younger age
groups. We congratulate the lads that fought hard in the name of the club
despite low numbers in the 16 and 18 age brackets. We thank all the younger
kids for their great efforts on the training and playing pitch and your day is
not too far away if we have the total support and encouragement of everyone.
We thank everyone that was involved in
Search for a Star, the Tractor Run, the Sports Day, all those involved in Scór
na nÓg and Fr. Mickey and those involved in the annual club Mass.
The club will hold its AGM in January,
most probably 6th January, and it is very important that a huge number of
parents attend the meeting. You do not have to take a position at the top table
but your support for the club will be very heartening for everyone working for
the club.
The club thanks you all for your support
and wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a very special 2012 for you and
your families.
Bantar Ballads EP
The extremely popular two man group of
local man Fran Deffew, Rathcline Road and Paul Murphy have just released an EP
for Christmas. The lads have gained tremendous acclamation where ever they have
played country wide and the EP is surely the start of much greater things to
come. I am sure that the EP will be a huge seller and nobody deserves success
more than the lads. The EP is priced €10 and is available from O’Brien’s Corner
House, Mags Hair Salon, or from Fran himself.

Rathcline GAA
The
Division 1 Relegation playoff which was scheduled for Sunday 18th Dec was
conceded by Ballymore last week. The Net result of which is that Rathcline will
retain their Division 1 Status for the 2012 season. This is a magnificent
result for the senior team this year given the scale of the cull of teams from
Division 1 this year. This news brings an end to a very long year and all
involved with the club can now take a well-earned break.
The
Annual General Meeting has been rescheduled for Friday 13th January 2012 at
8pm. Venue has yet to be decided but all parishioners will be kept informed via
text message and local media.
With
the change in weather taking a turn for the worse and frost setting in hard in
the last two weeks, precautions will be put in place with the clubhouse to stop
frost damage to the plumbing in the clubhouse. The showers and heating system
will be drained down until further notice.
