all the hard work done in the town by local workers and volunteers.

Traffic Lights
on Main Street

One
wonders the idea of the traffic lights on Main Street! One wonders if they are
of use or just for ornamental purposes. Many people are in complete dismay when
they stand at the lights and push the button as nothing happens. It was amazing
the number of foreigners tried to use them during the season and many people
both school kids and adults now have to take their life into their hands as the
cross the road. Perhaps somebody could explain what is going on with the
traffic lights and if they will ever again be in use.

Death

The
sad news broke on Wednesday last 19th October of the death at
Mullingar General Hospital of Mrs Mary Kenny, Knock. Molly as she was more
commonly known was predeceased by her husband Mike daughters, Kathleen,
Philomena and Bridgie and also by her son Noelie. Molly epitomised the very
meaning of house maker as she tended to all her family with a great loving care
and attention. She was rightly proud of each and every one of them. Molly was a
woman of great and deep faith and her strong was of great of great comfort to
her during the time of her illness. She was a terrific lady whose gentle and
warm nature endeared her to everybody that had the pleasure to know her. As a
friend and neighbour there was no more loyal and her passing will leave a great
void in the hearts and minds of all that knew her. Her remains reposed at her
residence on Friday and on Saturday she was removed to St. Mary’s Church for
her Funeral Mass before being laid to rest in Clonbonny Cemetery. To her sons
Michael and James, daughters Carmel, Mary, Josephine, Martha and Claire,
brothers and sisters, relatives and many friends we extend our sincere
sympathy.

Lough Ree
Athletic Club

The
club starts by congratulating Killoe NS on making the long journey to Galway
for the Connaught Primary School cross-country championship and in turn they
brought back bronze medals in the Boys 5th/6th class
category. What makes their achievement more remarkable was the fact that they
were competing against large schools in Galway which were backed by very
vibrant athletic clubs i.e. Ballinasloe, Claregalway, Westport, Claremorris
etc., and not forgetting the best from Roscommon, Sligo and Leitrim. It is not
for this scribe to be singing the praises of Killoe NS but we could not let
their marvellous achievement pass without comment.

Roscommon
Convent grounds was the venue for the county juvenile cross-country on Sunday.
The club caused some controversy when getting the date changed from Saturday to
Sunday due to football. Still there was a poor turnout. The best of the clubs
results were; Cian Glennon 3rd in Boys U10, Aoife Nolan in Girls
U10, Orla Keane 3rd in Girls U11, Sarah and Tanya Farrell were 1st
and 3rd respectively in the Girls U14.

The
club apologises to their young competitors who did turn up, for not having
teams to support them. The club tired, the weather may have been off-putting.

Rathcline GAA
Notes

The
U21 club championship begins on Saturday October 29th against St.
Columba’s in Derrycasson. The game will throw in at 4pm. The management team

Connerton. Best of luck to all involved.

The
senior team await the winners of Grattan’s or Ballymore in the Division 1
relegation/promotion playoff. The game is currently fixed for Sunday 6th
November.

There
is an urgent need for new referees in the county and clubs have been asked to
submit nominees to do a referee’s course starting November 1st.  It is expected that each club in the county
will submit one nominee for the course. We would ask anyone interested in
becoming a qualified referee to contact a member of the club’s Executive ASAP.

The
club are planning on holding a fundraising auction before Christmas. We are
asking parishioners to start thinking about any items in good condition which
they could donate to the auction. More details will be available about the
auction in the coming weeks.

The
club would like to congratulate Ciaran Kenny and Claire Leavy on their marriage
last Friday. We wish you both all the best for the future.

We
would like to wish Gareth Johnston all the best with Johnston’s Pharmacy’s
