Ladies
have tremendous win
The Rathcline Ladies football team
had a wonderful win over Mostrim in
the Ladies Championship semi-final in Carrickedmond on Sunday last. Despite
having clocked up a large score 1-16 they still had to cling on to make the final.
The final will take place this coming
weekend (no arrangements at the time of writing) against Drumlish and it is
expected that there will be a huge number of locals in attendance to support the Ladies.
Birth
Congratulations
to Eoin and Regina Donnellan, Ballyleague on the birth at the weekend of a baby
boy,
Shannon
Gaels Minor Club
The club had a wonderful Family Day
on Sunday 14th August. The day stared with a club mass in St. Mary’s
Church where the choir of club members under the director of Tracy Tobin
performed so beautifully. Aisling Farrell also danced so charmingly during
mass. The Tractor Run was a success where a number of tractors were driven
through the parish and back to the club grounds in Clonbonny where a barbeque,
music by local musicians and several other events added greatly to the family occasion.
Pride of place amongst all the events was the sheaf throwing where the craic
was only mighty Gerard Kenny followed very strongly by David Dowd and Sean
Kenny. The club would like to extend their deepest gratitude to everyone that
took part in any and all the events – you helped make it a wonderful day.
The club would like to congratulate
the Ladies football team on their semi-final win on Sunday last and wish them
well in the final against Drumlish.
Lanesboro
Community Games
The
National Finals of the Community Games took place over the last two
weekends. Lanesboro had nine children competing in the finals
representing the county of Longford. Enda Berga had a great performance
in the U-16 Javelin, finishing 5th in the final improving her throw through
each round to 21.61M just 30cm short of 4th place while Seadna Ryan also
reached his final in the U-10 Swimming, also finished 5th, just
missing out on 4th place.
In
the Field events the U14 Girls relay team made up of Tanya Farrell, Sarah
Farrell, Haley Rooney, Anna Peters and Niamh Chalk who ran a best time and came
5th in their heat. Aisling Casey did brilliant walk in the
U-13 semi-final, finishing up in a position to qualify for the final but
unfortunately was disqualified for a small technical breach. Anna Peters had
a great jump of 3.61Meters in the U-14 long jump but missed out on the medals
while Tanya Farrell who took part in the U-14 Long Puck also performed
excellently. Finally, Dúileach Ryan did very well to get through to the
semi-final of the Boy’s U-8 swimming and only missed out on a final spot by a
short hand. While it is a huge achievement for all the children to be
even able to take part in these games, it was great to see the training effort
put in over the summer and see that they all performed so well. Thanks to the
coaching from the Lough Ree Athletics club and their parents.
This
closes a successful 2010/2011 year for Lanesboro Community Games were they participated
in many of the events available – Soccer, Football, Art, Handwriting, Chess,
Athletics track and field, Tag-Rugby, Swimming, Footsal, Quiz giving many
children the opportunity to represent their local community and their
county. It is hoped to start the 2011/12 year in September and get
more parents involved. Thank you to the many coaches who helped out this
year – The Lough Ree Athletic club, the Soccer club, Shannon Gaels Minor club
and the schools.
