Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes
Triathlon
Saturday 16th July
Fifteen
local Triathletes from the Lanesboro Triathlon Club competed with honour at the
huge Triathlon event last weekend. This world renowned triathlon attracted
nearly 3000 competitors for across the Country and overseas. The Lanesboro Club
were resplendent in their new Club Trisuits in the colours of both Longford and
Roscommon representing the members from the Two Provinces that are part of the
Club and were widely complemented on their fine turnout.
This
was the first ever triathlon for Rathcline man Joe Ginty and for Faithleach’s
Ray Cox. Others who competed in the Triathlon were Ronie Masterson, Ronnie
Johnston, Laura Clyne, Mick Shorthall, Seamus Gallagher, Martin Gillen, Sean
Mimnagh, Kieran Sudway, Qona Cox, Declan Hynes Mark Kenny , Sean Farrell and
Colm Daly. In glorious sunshine which made for an enjoyable day but difficult
race in the heat, two members of the Club were successful in winning Bronze
Medals in their respective categories. Colm Daly won his in the National Sprint
Championship Race and Ronie Masterson in the Olympic distance race.
All
focus now is on the Club’s inaugural Triathlon, aptly named the Two Provinces on
16th July and places are filling up very fast following the wide
exposure of the club in recent triathlons and aquathons. Every aspect of the
race has been checked and double checked to ensure that everyone taking part
will have a very memorable day and to establish the race as a “ must do again “
for those who have signed up to the race.
