GAELIC4GIRLS:

The Ladies Gaelic Football Association in conjunction with Longford Sports Partnership are running Gaelic4Girls in the Lanesborough/Ballyleague area (St Faithleachs GAA pitch) every Saturday from 4.00-5.00pm for 8 weeks beginning on the 5th March. The Programme involves girls between 9-13yrs. The cost is only €8. All interested parties, please contact: Lisa Cafferky – 087 7677454, Madeline Murray – 086 1500123 or Sheila Collier – 086 3179218.

Aimed at increasing participation in Ladies Gaelic Football, the programme has been rolled out nationally in various areas. The programme targets girls between 9-13years in the hope that they will continue to play with their local clubs in the area. The programme is focused on fun and participation, allowing girls to get an introduction to Ladies Gaelic Football in a fun environment.

The girls will be taught the basic skills of Gaelic football on a fun basis and will then demonstrate their new skills on the final day through a mini-blitz of games. All girls will be presented with a Gaelic 4 Girls t-shirt, medal and certificate. A major bonus from the programme is that all participants will get the chance to participate in a fun Major Regional Gaelic4Girls Blitz Day on the 28th May. On this day the participants of all the Gaelic4Girls programmes taking place regionally will take part in fun games and receive a medal for their participation. The girls will also get the opportunity to meet Ladies Football All Stars and receive a specialised coaching session from them.

This is the first Gaelic4Girls programme to be held in the area and all girls from Lanesborough and the surrounding areas are encouraged to attend and learn the basic skill of Ladies Football. It is hoped that all these girls will continue to play Ladies Gaelic Football by joining their local clubs. The girls will improve immensely and display quality skills on their final mini blitz day. This is a great way to make new friends and learn a new sport!

The Programme is been organised by Lisa Cafferky (Ladies Gaelic Football Urban Programme Officer, 087 7677454) and co-ordinated by Madeline Murray (086 1500123) and Sheila Collier (086 3179218).
