Wedding
The marriage took place in St. Mary’s Church Lanesboro of Regina Carroll daughter of Seán and Anne Carroll, Tullyvrane, Lanesboro and Eoin Donnellan, son of P.J. and Joan Donnellan, Rathcline Road. Chief bridesmaid was Louise Carroll, sister of the bride and bridesmaids were Jenny Brady and Olive Connaughton both friends of the bride. Bestman was Rory Donnellan brother of the groom, groomsmen were Padraig Wallace and Michael Ward both friends of the groom. Flower girl was Ellen Walshe cousin of the bride. The marriage ceremony was celebrated by Fr. Brendan O’Sullivan assisted by Fr. Michael Reilly. The wedding reception took place in the Landmark Hotel, Carrick on Shannon. We wish the happy couple many years of wedded bliss.

Do you think that you the ability to and inclination to be a team leader with Ballyboro scouts. The local scout troop since its inception a few years back has seen remarkable surge in numbers and activities and has been a huge success with the troop gaining tremendous acclaim for their excellent. It is a true success story in our area and we should be rightly proud of their marvellous work.
You too can be a part of their success by volunteering your time to become a scout leader. Ballyboro scouts are seeking an expression of interest from adults in the area interested in undertaking the required training .

Sunday sees the start of Cemetery Sundays
Sunday next 4th July at Rathcline Cemetery the first of the parish Cemetery Sunday Remembrance Masses will take place at 6pm. A voluntary collection will take place and the proceeds go towards the upkeep of the graveyard throughout the year. I hope your contributions will be generous.
The following Sunday 11th July it is the turn of Lanesboro cemetery and in Clonbonny cemetery on Sunday 18th July.
There is a tremendous amount of work being done in each cemetery in preparation and I hope that everybody with family and relatives in each cemetery will tend to their family graves.
Sympathy
We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Mona Hanley, her husband Pat and their family, Lisnacusha on the death last week of Mona’s sister Gabrielle Mc Crann, Jamestown, Co. Leitrim.
Bus to Oxygen

Shannonside Camera Club
Club members are now in the process of taking photographs to exhibit at the forthcoming Lough Ree Environmental Summer School and Arts Festival taking place 7th -11th July. The theme this year is ENERGY and the photographs on display will try to endeavour and capture this mood in its various and diverse form. The club was only formed last year and continues to grow, new members always welcome and contact can be made at 043-3321201.

Head Start Summer Fun Club
The Head start Summer Fun Club for 2½ to 8 year olds will be commencing in July and running for three weeks with the first week commencing on Monday 12th for 6-8 year olds, Monday 19th July for 4 to 6 year olds and Monday 26th July for 2½ to 4year olds.
Head Start Pre-School is also taking bookings for the FREE Pre-school year and for children of 2½ and upward. For more information contact Denise at 3321321 before 6pm any evening.
Dance, Music, Sport and Art Camp
A dance, music, sport and art summer camp will take place in St. Mary’s Parish Hall from Monday 12th to Friday 16th July each day from 10am to 2pm. Children can be dropped off from 9.30am at the Parish Hall. The dance part of the camp will consist of céilí, set, line, Irish, Scottish, hip-hop, flamenco, ballroom, tap and kinder dance. The music part will consist of tin whistle and recorder. The fee for the camp is €50 and reductions for families of three or more. VHI Cúl Camps
VHI Cúl camp is again back in Clonbonny this year and it again promises to be another wonderful experience for all the young boys and girls in the area.
Places are booking up fast especially the Nursery camp places and we are limiting places in the Nurseries to 40 places per venue so to avoid disappointment it is advised to book as soon as you can as there might not be any places available on the day. This program will run along similar lines to previous years and Longford will be holding both hurling and football camps throughout the county for the summer months. This year they will be promoting handball more actively within 5 of the camps where we have the facilities to accommodate us. Longford Coaching & Games will also be running a nursery camp for 4 – 6 year olds at each VHI GAA Cul Camp and these camps can be booked by completing and returning the Yellow application form. The date for the Clonbonny GAA Cul Camp is from 26th July to 30th inclusive and it is for all between the ages of 6 and 13yrs from 10-2.30 and the cost is €60 per child. Lough Ree AC
There was great excitement over the weekend with Longford’s great win over Mayo, and rightly so. But let us not forget the four young stalwarts who headed to Templemore for the All Ireland competition, having been successful at county and Connaught level. The four were Orla Keane and Emily Mc Carthy in the 60m sprint for under 10 and the Newtowncashel pair Seoige Mulvihill and Áine Bannon in the under 11 Ball Throw.
The throwers finished 6th overall while the sprinters were 10th in these “twosome” events. There is more, the Cashel girls improved on their Connaught performances and one cannot ask for more than that i.e. to produce your best on the big occasion. To confirm their fine effort, they were second to the Claremorris pair in Galway but finished ahead in Templemore. Well done girls!!
The sprinters had to contend with 4 heats of eight with the results based in electronic timing. Here Orla Keane proved to all, the starlet we think she is. Orla won the Roscommon County title and the Longford Community Games and had the 4th fastest time in Templemore, improving on her Connaught time. To say that there are only 3 nine year olds faster than her in Ireland is some statement.
Let’s not forget her partner Emily Mc Carthy our next best sprinter in the under 10 age group. Emily is more at home over a longer distance. She was not taking part in her best event at the Longford Community Games either, but bring on middle distance where she will show the exciting runner she can be.
The club are indebted to those who qualified for the national Finals and travelled to Templemore. The club and your communities are proud of you.
Great Achievement for Lanesboro Primary School
The pupils in the Senior classes at Lanesborough Primary were involved in the Write-a-book project which was run by the Education Centre in Carrick-on-Shannon. Two pupils, Conor McGuiness and Rebeka Stauvse were highly commended for their books and the following pupils received a merit award for their books Shauna Glennon, Mark Lyons and Nadean McCarthy. Congratulations to all involved in the project and to their teacher Ms Cora Nevin.
Incredible Edibles Project. The pupils in the Senior room were involved in sowing their own vegetables and fruit in recent months which were harvested during the we ek Potatoes, strawberries, lettuce, scallions, carrots and basil were all harvested by the pupils thanks to the care and attention of James McCarthy who was responsible for watering the produce daily.
Green Flag. Our school received the Fourth Green Flag recently under the project initiated by An Taisce. This flag was awarded for all our work involved in waste and litter management, Energy and water conservation over the past 7 years. We hope to raise the flag in the Autumn. Work has already commenced on our fifth flag which centres on Transport
Jumble Sale and Infant Pyjama Party :Our recent Jumble Sale organised by the Sixth class and Pyjama Party in Ms Guckian’s room raised €260 which was donated to the Jack and Jill foundation.
We wish Sr Consuella every good wish in her retirement from our school after over 30 years service to our school, although she will still be active with the school choir. We hope our new teacher Ms Liz Guckian will be happy in her new position and wish her many satisfying years on our staff.
As the Summer holidays approach we would like to thank the parents of all our pupils for their continued support. We wish all the pupils a very happy and safe holiday. Many thanks to our very industrious Parents’ Association for their tremendous support during the year, from providing refreshments after the First Communion to organising the purchase of Confirmation Gowns which were a great success, to taking care of the School Uniform Jumpers for all to the recent successful Sponsored Walk, and for their considerable donation to the purchase of our 2 interactive whiteboards. The Parent’s Association are also supplying the school once again with pencils, erasers, toppers and copies for the coming school year.
We would like to thank Kieran Feeney and Seadna Ryan for their coaching expertise with our football team throughout the year.
A word of thanks too to our Caretaker Tony for his commitment to keeping our school so beautiful and to Joan and Annette for their safe hands in caring for those children in their care.
We say farewell to our sixth class, Max Shauna and Rachael, and wish them every success in the next phase of their education.
We wish all those involved with our school community a happy summer break.
Computer/Secretarial Course
Lanesboro Community College will offer a FETAC standard Computer/Secretarial course which will also include a Digital Photography Course commencing on 13th September in the college. The course will take place four mornings a week and if you wish to enrol for the course you are invited to call to the college or phone 043-3321139.
Learn Online for FREE with FAS at Lanesboro Library!
An ‘Online Learning’ Initiative is running in your local library over the next few months. The courses are all online and are open to everybody over 18. All courses have been developed for people with little or no IT Skills as well as those with some IT knowledge. Some of the courses running include: Introduction to Computers, Internet and Email, ECDL, Basic Finance, Health and Safety.
Registration forms are available at the Library. A FAS course facilitator will be present every Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm for any queries you may have.

Pike Fishing Competition
On Sunday NEXT July 4th Lanesboro Pike Angling Club will be holding a competition on Lough Ree from 11am to 4pm. Entries will be taken from 10.30am at Lanesboro harbour.
Entry fee is €25 per boat with a maximum of 4 rods per boat and no more than 2 rods per person.
All boats must have proper holding tanks. All the proceeds of this competition will be donated to County Longford Hospice.
The presentation of prizes will be held in Clarkes bar following the weigh in.
There will be numerous cash prizes on the day, there will also be a raffle for spot prizes.
Summer Brushstrokes Exhibition
The Annual Brushstrokes Summer Art Exhibition will be shown from Saturday July 3rd, to Sunday July 11th at the MJS premises (opp. Supervalu), Main Street, Lanesborough. An official opening will take place on Sunday 4th with wine reception, at 12.30pm, to which you are all invited. Please show you support for our local artists by visiting the exhibition (which is free), and perhaps you may even pick up an original piece of art at a very reasonable price.
