Lanesboro Ballyleague notes 24th May’10

Lanesboro – Ballyleague Notes

Lough Ree AC

Lanesboro’s All-Weather track was the venue for the second leg of the Roscommon County Championships – under 9 to under 12 age groups. There was quite a good attendance of competitors and parents despite the fact that some locals were missing.

The ‘Killoe Kids’ came, saw, conquered and went home with a dose of medals. There were several surprise performances, so much so that it is difficult to know where to start or finish.

Orla Duffy proved she was no ‘one hit wonder’ where she won the shot and was second in the under 12 600m. Éanna Donohoe had a double winning the under 11 sprint and long jump.

Terrible Twins – The older generation would know them as Sean Purcell and Frank Stockwell who won All Ireland medals with Galway in the fifties. Well, Lanesboro has its own answer to these greats with their own Richard and Stephen Prior. Richard won the 60m sprint for under 9’s with Stephen finishing 2nd. Stephen won the Long Jump with Richard taking silver and Richard took gild again in the 300m. Owen Murray surprised all by winning the under 12 shot.

County Champions from the club for 2010 are; Boy’s Under 9 – Richard Prior 60m and 300m, Stephen Prior – Long Jump. Éanna Donohoe 80m and Long Jump. Under 12 Eamon Kehoe in 80m and 600m. Liam Harte – Long Jump, Owen Murray – shot. Girls under 10 Emily Mc Carthy 500m. Under 12 Shot – Orla Duffy.

Runners up and silver medallists; Under 9 Stephen Prior 60m, Richard Prior Long Jump, Under 10 Liam Ross 60m, Bryn Peters Long Jump. Under 11 Niall Fennelly 600m and shot and Eamon Kehoe Long Jump. Girls under 9 Aisling Farrell 60m, Niamh Harte 300m and Long Jump. Under 10 Emily Mc Carthy 80m and Long Jump and Orla Keane 500m. Under 11 Zoe Mc Dermott 600m, Áine Bannon Ball Throw and under 12 Orla Duffy 600m.  Bronze Medals – Boys under 9 Brian Casey 60m, Cian Glennon 300m, under 10 Bryn Peters 80m, under 11 Cronan Flood 80m, under 12 Owen Murray 80m, Killian Flood 600m, Niall Farrelly Long Jump  and Liam Harte Shot. Girls under 9 Niamh Harte 60m, Aisling Farrell 300m, Roisín Brennan Long Jump and Ball throw, Under 10 L.A. Myhill 80m & Long Jump, Orla Costello  Ball Throw and Áine Bannon Long Jump.

The club would like to thank the local scout troop for supply and erecting the tent, Lanesboro Community College for making their fine facilities available, the person in control of the weather and last but by no means least the parents, children and officials all of who combined to making the day a great success.
