Ballyboro

U12 David Flaherty Cup.
Ballyboro FC V Ardagh United. Final Score 6-7 (after extra-time).
We played a cracking U12 Cup game away to Ardagh on Sunday last. This was a tremendous team effort from all players on the Panel from start to finish. Boro were 1st to score in the opening minute of the game, a flick from Jonathan Hussey onto Shane Phillips who took it round Ardagh’s keeper. Ardagh replied with a goal in the 5th minute. Cian Gannon had a lovely chance in the 7th minute followed by chances for Shane Phillips & Kevin Sorohan before Jonathan Hussey put Boro ahead with a classic free kick into the top right corner. Boro ahead 2-1 at half-time. In the opening minute of the 2nd half, Ronan O’Malley crept in for Boro and did very well to score from a tight angle. Minutes later, Ardagh replied with their 2nd goal of the game. Conor Smith came on in defence for Boro. In the 18th minute, Shane Phillips crossed to Kevin Sorohan who took advantage of Ardagh’s keeper off-line and scored a cracker. Ardagh fought back hard. Conor English, Conor Walton & Ryan Gill came on for Boro and gave it their all. Ardagh were awarded a penalty in the 26th minute, secured the goal and piled on the pressure. In the final minute they scored to bring the game to extra-time at 4-4. Boro’s keeper, Eran Farrell pulled off some cracking saves under pressure before Ardagh were awarded another penalty in the 6th minute and went ahead. Ryan Guinan gave it his all to clear some ball from defence. In the 2nd half of extra-time Ardagh secured an opening goal in the 1st minute but Boro were not giving up. Mickey Cox proved his strength for Boro & Jack Irwin played a stormer cutting a fine ball into Max Zimareves who scored a fantastic goal for Boro. Ardagh scored yet another in the 6th minute. The heavens opened & it became very hard for both sides to control the ball in the downpour. Conor Walton drove the ball into the back of the net in the 9th minute and Boro were back in with a chance. Credit due to all the players on the panel who gave it everything but the win went to Ardagh at the final whistle. Many thanks to our Panel of Players for their commitment & dedication throughout the season & well done to each & everyone, namely: Eran Farrell, Ryan Guinan, Jack Irwin, Daniel Barry, Max Zimareves, Mikey Cox, Kevin Sorohan, Jonathan Hussey, Ronan O’Malley, Shane Phillips, Cian Gannon, Conor Smith, Conor English, Conor Walton, Ryan Gill & Jamie Donoghue. Many thanks to John Sorohan, Team Manager at the start of the season but regretfully could not continue. Huge thanks & appreciation to Tom Gill who took over as team manager into the season & did great work with the panel. Thanks to all the parents for their continued support throughout & all who helped out in many ways. We wish the team all the very best as they progress to U13 level next Season.
U10 – Ballyboro V Stonepark. Final Score 5-0.
In their best performance to date, Boro hit the ground running against a gallant Stonepark side that just couldn’t get up to speed on the day. Deadly Donlon pulled all the strings at the start, setting up both Chalmers & Magan who were both unlucky not to score. Soon all 3 combined to set up Kennelly who unleashed an absolute thunderbolt to the top corner. Just as Stonepark were finding their feet, Kennelly unleashed another rocket with his left foot to send Boro on their way. Stonepark trying to hold on until half-time conceded a fine solo effort from Donlon. Early second-half exchanges saw that Casey, Halpin, Murray & O’Donnell in goal were rock solid Chalmers clipped the outside of both posts before Magan chipped in number 4. Stonepark soldiered on & brought two fine saves from O’Donnell before Kennelly completed a magnificent hat-trick with a long range curler after good work from O’Reilly & Carberry. Pauric Sorohan had the last kick in anger as Boro head to the final where Castlepollard await.
U8 – Ballyboro Lions V Kenagh United. Final Score 2-0.
In an absolute classic that had it all, Boro just about shaded this semi-final to meet Erne Valley in the upcoming Final. Boro blazed a trial in the opening minutes & scored from a Liam Ormsby special in their opening attack. Evan Chalmers went close soon after but Kenagh stormed back & only a superb save from Dylan Donlon along with a saving tackle form Michael Dunne kept Boro in the lead at half-time. Cian O’Brien & James Browne dominated the early second half exchanges but it was the lively Jennifer Brennan who set up O’Brien for their 2nd goal. Orla Costello and Ormsby were full of running & just as Boro looked safe Kenagh turned the tide & dominated to the finish. Donlon was called into action twice, the crossbar was rattled & a magnificent deflection by Nathan McGovern kept Boro hanging on at the finish. A well deserved place in the Final against Erne Valley & if that game is as good as the previous encounter it will go right down to the wire.

7-a-side Finals, Bank Holiday Monday at Abbeycartron.
Congratulations to all our Teams who have qualified for the up-coming 7-a-side Finals.
