Lanesboro – Ballyleague Notes
Shannon Gaels Registration Night
The Shannon Gaels Minor club will hold their registration night on Thursday night 25th February in the clubhouse at 7pm. Registration is for all players from under 8 to under 18 and it is hugely important for all members as anybody not registered cannot represent the club as they are not insured. The registration fee is €30 for one child and €45 for two or more children. It is very important that all parents turn up and register their children. The club welcomes every young child and their parents living in the parish and encourages them to come along on registration night. Every young boy and girl in the parish should be registered with the club as the club hosts a lot of activities throughout the year in Clonbonny and it is important that no child should be absent from the activities.
Table Quiz for Haiti
Adie Farrell would like extend his grateful thanks to everybody for their support of his Table Quiz in his bar on Thursday night. The full proceed has been donated towards the people of Haiti. It was a hugely successful night and a great night of fun was had throughout. Adie would like to say a big thank you to everybody, those that helped in the preparation of questions, those that turned up to support and the business people of the town that sponsored so many spot prizes, so much so that every table has a spot prize winner.
Congratulations to Jimmy Flood, Paddy Flood, Joe Mc Grath and Margaret Mullooly who made up the victorious team.

Lough Ree Athletics Club
Sunday last was the first day of a two day programme for the Connaught Indoor Athletics Championship. The venue was Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, the only indoor facility of its kind in the Republic.
The club hoped to organise a group of 15 to 20 to compete, but there were very few takers. Three from Lanesboro and the rest from Killoe
Enda Berga was 7th in the under 15 shot, Domnic O’Reilly figured in the under 14 long jump and 800m. His Ballyleague schoolmate Larrissa Noone took part in the under 12 600m and shot. To her great credit, the Ballyleague girl was 2nd in the under 12 shot.
Let us not forget the Killoe ids. Shane McManus and David McCarthy on their first outing were involved in the sprint and 600m at the under 13 grade, along with Brian Harte. In the under 12 age group Niall Farrelly was 3rd in his heat of the 600m. Liam Harte and Eamon Keogh took part in the 600m and long jump. Both boys giving a very good account of themselves, finishing 10th with only centimetres separating them from higher placings with 44 athletes taking part.
The second day of competition in hurdles, high jump and relays is fixed for March 20th.
Thought for 2010: What to do with the army barracks in Longford town??? Build a state of the art Indoor facility lie the new Odyssey Arena in Belfast. It could be hired out for all types of events and sports, i.e. show jumping, music festivals, etc . Longford is central as opposed to Dublin. Think about it.
FINE GAEL
The AGM of the Lanesboro Branch will be held in Adrian Farrel’s Lounge on Thursday the 25th February at 9.00pm. Deputy James Bannon and local Councillors will attend. New members welcome.
