Digital Times

The Conmy brothers Stephen and Eddie, sons of Frank and Mary (nee Kelly) Conmy, Rathcline Road have just recently launched Digital Times. It is Ireland’s digital marketing and media authority. It is described as ‘your digital media and marketing companion, letting you know the work that works, identifying the trends you need to know and help you stay true to your brand amongst all the shiny new widgets’.

The changing times saw the two local brothers having to make changes in their lives as the recession made a hard bite into their respective careers. It proved to be a blessing in disguise, as both lads came together to take a brave step of going into publishing their own magazine. In a time of falling readership for many publications the lads have really hit on a winner and are greatly enthused by the excellent response to their first issue of Digital Times.

I know that there are a huge number of readers of these notes involved in all aspects of the digital market and this periodical is available on subscription and if you wish to subscribe contact Stephen or Eddie at hello@digitaltimes.ie

I hope that the ‘Digital Times’ will go from strength to strength for the lads who richly deserve to be successful.

Lanesboro Fair Day

At a very successful Fair Day meeting last week the committee set Saturday 6th March as the date for this year’s Fair Day. The Fair Day has been a remarkable success for the town over the past number of years and full credit to the hardworking committee for their continued dedication to re-enacting a tradition that was lost to us for so long. The Fair Day brings so many people who once resided in the area back to met up with friends and acquaintances and making the day a real community festival.

Hopefully, there will be huge support from all local businesses as the success of the Fair Day is determined firstly by the support of local businesses and volunteers and then by the dealers that bring their animals to town for sale on the day.

Rathcline AGM deferred for one week

The AGM of the Rathcline Club opened on Sunday last to a fair sized number in the clubhouse at their Clonbonny grounds. Unfortunately, when it came to the election of officers there was nobody willing to take a job and the meeting had to be deferred for one week. The AGM will resume on Sunday next 7th February in the clubhouse at 6pm.

Each and every member of the parish interested in maintaining the club in the parish is asked to look deep into their hearts and come along and Sunday in a positive manner that will see the end of this non-accepting of positions and stabilize the club going into the future. There are many exciting opportunities for the club looking to the future and it is vital that these opportunities should be grasped by a committee that is willing to progress the club well into the future.

Death

It was with great sadness and regret we received the news of the death at Sacred Heart Home, Roscommon of Doreen Murray, Cloontuskert, on Wednesday 27th January. Doreen will be remembered with tremendous affection for her affable nature. She was a thorough and personable lady that always had a warm and welcoming smile. She was a lady with a heart of gold. She was a diligent worker and her passing will leave a tremendous void in the hearts and minds of everybody that had the pleasure to know and meet her. Doreen only 53 years old was stricken with Parkinsons; it was a cross that she bore so courageously and true to her wonderful nature she maintained her ladylike qualities right to the very end. Her remains were removed from Farrell’s Funeral Home to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Ballyleague on Thursday last and she was laid to rest following Requiem Mass in Cloontuskert cemetery. To her husband Pat, sons Padraig, Derek and Conor, daughter Madeline, brother, sisters and huge number of friends we extend our sincere sympathy.

Death

The area was saddened and shocked to learn of the death at Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown on Sunday 24th January of Tommy Fitzpatrick. Tommy, formerly of Fitzpatrick’s shop, Rathcline Road, had lived and worked in Dublin in recent years. Tommy will be fondly remembered by many people in the area for in the 60’s he was one of the farseeing group that set up the ‘hops’ in St. Mary’s Parish hall where so many of the young people of the area dance to the most up-to-date and biggest hits of the time on a weekly business. Tommy was a real technical genius and there was nothing he could not turn his hand to and his expertise was always in demand. All of us that had the pleasure of Tommy’s company will have great memories of a great lad. His remains were removed from St. Brigid’s Church Blanchardstown to St. Mary’s Church Lanesboro for his Funeral Mass on Tuesday and burial took place following Mass to Cloontuskert cemetery. To his wife Freda, his sister Margaret, relatives and large array of friends we extend our deepest sympathy.
