Regional Manager

We would like to congratulate Sean Farrell, Lisduff, Ballymahon Road, son of John L and Geraldine Farrell, Rathcline on his appointment as Regional Manager, Agri Business Department of ACC bank. We wish him well in his new position.

Death

The entire area was stunned to learn of the untimely death on Friday last at Roscommon County Hospital following a short illness of Anthony Healy, Corrigeen. Anthony born and reared in Cloonadra who moved to Corrigeen many years ago was a man of the people. That was clearly evident at the repose of his body at his residence on Saturday and again at his Funeral Mass on Sunday. Anthony more commonly known as Anto worked for many years in Donnellan Engineering. His ability with machinery was well renowned but his true vocation lay in the time that he owned his own taxi business. This is where he came into his own and the care, devotion and loyalty to his customers had to be seen to be believed. His neighbourliness told the person Anto was as he was always ready to help and oblige without even being requested. As a friend, I can say, you could find no better nor loyal. There was nothing that he would not do and his loss will leave an emptiness that will be hugely difficult to fill, if ever.

Anthony’s remains were removed to St. Mary’s Church, Lanesboro on Sunday last for his Funeral Mass and following Mass his body was interred in Cloontuskert Cemetery. To his sons Shane, Darren and Stephen, mother Úna, brothers Gerry, John, Michael and Kieran, sisters Mary and Úna, relatives and many many friends we extend our deepest sympathy

European Championship excites Locals

It is not often that a European or world Championship event comes to Ireland in any sport. So, when Athletics Ireland managed to get the European Cross-Country Championships to Santry, Dublin, on Sunday last, it was an occasion not to be missed.

With this in mind, the Lough Ree Athletic Club arranged with AAI for 14 free tickets and some adult tickets for Sunday to compensate the young runners for their efforts and the hardship they had to endure during the cross country season. To the surprise of the club the take-up on the offer was only two young athletes. Let’s hope that the two girls enjoyed their day in Santry and that they liked the memento of the occasion they received.

Sympathy

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Joe and Mary Ghee and their family on the sudden death last week of Joe’s mother Bridie, Ferefad, Longford.

Swim on Christmas Day

I am sure the hardy souls that take the Christmas Day plunge into the Shannon each year are again looking forward the appeal of a swim in the Shannon on Christmas morning. Sponsorship cards are still available and the proceeds continues to support the incredible work done  in Search and Rescue each year by the dedicated Lough Ree Sub Aqua Club.

We would like to offer our deepest sympathy to Mary Coffey and family, Church View and her sister Phil Rogers, Curraghrua on the death last week of their uncle Andy Rogers, Lisduff, Montgomery, Moydow.
