Lough Ree Golfing Society
It was a very enjoyable outing to Co Longford Golf Club on Saturday last to celebrate our captain, Paddy Donlon’s prize day. There was a good turnout of 27 players and after the initial light drizzle, the weather improved dramatically. Congratulations to the Co Longford course committee for the excellent condition of the greens and fairways notwithstanding the torrential rainfall all week.
Some excellent scores were returned and the following were the results:
The overall winner of Paddy Donlon’s beautiful prize- a lovely piece of bog oak- was Jimmy Flanagan on 35 points. In second place with 32 points was Charlie Brennan; third was Jim Finn who had 29 points. The front nine was won by Joe Conmy with 15 points and the back nine was won by Sean Brennan on 13 points. Nearest the pin on the 4th was won by Brendan Whitty and the visitor’s prize was won by James Conmy with 37 points.
Many thanks to Mike Power and Colm McCrann who very generously sponsored some prizes and a special thanks to the captain and committee of Co Longford Golf Club for their generous hospitality. The Society hopes to be back in Longford for another outing next year.
All in all a very enjoyable day: some good golf, some middling, and great camaraderie in the clubhouse afterwards. Thanks to all who attended. The next outing, the harvest one, is to Mountemple Golf Course on Wednesday 16th September. Hope we get the good weather promised for September, fingers crossed!
