Rathcline Club Developments
Monday 6th April has proven to be the beginning of another chapter in the history of the Rathcline GAA club. The machinery of the Prunty construction company moved on to the club grounds in Clonbonny where over the next few months they will put a new all weather pitch in place. There is great development for the club and the excitement of adding a wonderful pitch to the excellent Clubhouse already in situ.
The club has a proud tradition of being progressive in its development and this current work will once again put them to the forefront in the county.
It was fitting that the final games on the pitch were both in the senior and underage group where a great deal of work is being put in to ensure a sure and sound footing in the senior football status and the minor club have embarked on a long term strategy of continued growth to supplement the senior team with excellent footballers. The seniors went down by the narrowest of margins to Ballymahon and the under 16’s beat Kilbride, Co. Roscommon in a challenge game.
As part of the fundraising to pay for the pitch developments the club Easter draw will take place this coming weekend in the Swan Tavern. Every club supporter and parishioner is asked to support the draw and tickets are on sale from club members and executive and from O’Brien’s Corner Shop. Tickets are priced at €20 each and the draw will take place at 11pm. The prizes for the draw are 1st 3,000, 2nd €1000, 3rd €750, 4th €500, 5th €250, 6th €200, 7th €200, 8th €200, 9th €200 and 10th €200.
All Ireland medals come to the area.
All roads led from Roscommon to Banagher, Co. Offaly on Friday last for the All Ireland Colleges Ladies A Senior Final where the Convent of Mercy, Roscommon took on the might of Loreto, Fermoy, Co. Cork. Having won the Connaught final for the first time in the history of the competition they took the challenge of Ulster champions St. Mary’s Newry, in their stride and progressed to their first All Ireland Final. Powered by a number of local girls the girls faced a remarkable time in their young lives. Not alone did they qualify but practically the same panel also qualified for the All Ireland Ladies A Soccer Final. This is truly a remarkable achievement by an extremely talented panel of girls.
The local girls are all members of the St. Faithleach’s club and they are: Aisling Lannon daughter of Anthony and Mary Lannon, Ballagh, Amanda and Laura Mc Loone daughters of Denis and Carmel Mc Loone, Cloontuskert, Siobhan Ormsby, daughter of Steve and Teresa Ormsby, Ballyglass and Cheryl Scally, daughter of Kevin and Regina Scally Mountcashel. A further local connection was Siobhan Tully granddaughter of Johnny and Nancy Kelly, Ballyleague. We congratulate all of the girls and their team mates. We would also like to wish the girls that are on the panel for the soccer final every success and hope that they can achieve the remarkable double for their school.

Death
It was with great sadness and regret that we learned of the death on Sunday 29th March of Tomás Mac Ruairí, Carraroe. Tomás and his wife Siobhan came to live in Lanesboro a number of years back and he quickly endeared himself to neighbours and local alike with his mild manner and pleasantness. He was a great lover of the Irish language and dance. He was an excellent and popular set dance teacher. His passing will leave sadness in the hearts of those that had the pleasure to know him. His remains were removed from his residence on Wednesday last to St. Mary’s Church, Lanesboro and his remains were interred at Carrickedmond Cemetery following his Funeral Mass. To his wife Siobhan, brothers, sisters relatives and friends we extend our sincere sympathy.
